The New York Yankees are 37-22 and on top of the American League East as of June 4. That has happened even with injuries to players such as Gerrit Cole (who is out for the year) and Giancarlo Stanton.
Stanton, the Yankees slugger, has yet to play in a game this year after suffering an injury in Spring Training with what was referred to as a "tennis elbow."
In mid-May, there was no "set date" for a rehab assignment for Stanton, which put a giant cloud over when he would be able to make his 2025 debut.
On Wednesday before the Yankees showdown against the Cleveland Guardians in the Bronx, manager Aaron Boone dropped a new Stanton update, per Gary Phillips of The New York Daily News.
Giancarlo Stanton had a workout day in Tampa on Wednesday. He’s likely headed back to New York, “but I don’t know the next step, if it’s a rehab assignment or what," Aaron Boone said. "Hopefully we'll have that in the next 24 hours.”
Stanton working out in Tampa is a good sign, but it remains to be seen exactly what the concrete plan is for Stanton as he is set to come back to New York for the time being.
The former Miami Marlins slugger had 27 home runs and 72 RBI in 2024 in 114 games, although the Yankees offense has been able to get by just fine with him recovering from this latest injury.
The Stanton front will be one to monitor over the next day or two to see what the plan is for him.
