Major League Baseball fans of six different teams were all a bit confused Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
Start times for Game 3 of the Wild Card series between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres, and the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers: They've all changed.
It all hinged on the fourth series, between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds.
Why did Wild Card Game 3 start times change?
If all four series made it to a third game, the contests would've all started at the same times Thursday that they had on Tuesday and Wednesday.
But once the Dodgers swept the Reds, TV optimization took over.
It meant everyone got bumped back, essentially avoiding the 1 p.m. first pitch for the Guardians-Tigers and the mid-afternoon first pitch for Cubs-Padres in favor of later starts for everyone, and a primetime spot for the AL East rivals.
