It hasn't been an ideal season for left-hander Sean Manaea of the New York Mets.
Manaea made his first start of the year in the middle of July, dealing with an injury prior. It was a challenging situation for him to be in, but many expected that Manaea would come in and throw the baseball at the level he was expected to for the Mets.
Unfortunately, to say that hasn't been the case would be putting it lightly, as he owns a 5.60 ERA and recently allowed five earned runs against the Detroit Tigers on Monday. He only threw 3.2 innings in that outing, striking out six and giving up eight hits.
Mets' Sean Manaea gives honest take
Instead of making excuses about his performance, Manaea said that he needs to be better and that he has very high expectations of himself. He also stated that the situation is frustrating when everybody else is doing their jobs and he isn't.
“I have high expectations of myself and this organization does,” Manaea said, per Mika Puma of The New York Post. “Everyone is pulling their weight, everyone is doing their thing and I’m not. It’s just very frustrating. I wish I had an answer for it, but I don’t. I will figure it out.”

The Mets have some tough decisions to make over the next few weeks, particularly if they make the postseason.
With the postseason coming up, they’ll likely have to decide who they want to have in their starting rotation. Manaea hasn't been good enough right now to warrant a spot, so Carlos Mendoza will have to decide what he wants to do there.
