Timeline revealed for Mets’ Kodai Senga to accept minor league assignment image

The New York Mets have faced issues with their starting pitching a lot lately. While some of the youth, like Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong, have been incredible in their brief stints with the team, the Mets haven't had the same success with Kodai Senga.

He's had a rough few starts recently. While his season-long numbers are good, his recent production hasn't been as good. It's gotten to the point where the Mets are considering moving Senga down to the minor leagues to figure some things out.

As Mike Puma of the New York Post reports, there is a distinct timeline for when the Mets will know whether Senga will accept a trip to the minor leagues this season.

Kodai Senga Minor League Decision Timeline Revealed

"Mets will know by Friday whether Kodai Senga is willing to accept a minor league assignment," Puma reports.

While no decision has been made, the Mets are considering moving Senga to the minor leagues in an effort to see him figure things out. This is only up for consideration based on how he's struggled in the last few starts.

Across Senga's last eight starts, he had a 0-3 record thanks to a 6.56 ERA in 35.2 innings pitched. He's given up 39 hits, 29 runs, 26 earned runs, eight home runs, and 22 walks during this time.

In the 13 starts before this rough stretch, Senga had a 1.24 ERA across 72.2 innings pitched with only 11 runs allowed (10 earned), with three home runs and 32 walks given up.

But, aside from his first start back from injury, where he went four scoreless innings against the Kansas City Royals, Senga has struggled on the mound.

Amid a tight race for the National League East with the Philadelphia Phillies, the Mets need to make every effort to improve the team and make up some ground.

While unfortunate, a way to do so could be moving Senga to the minor leagues in an effort to hope he rediscovers his dominance from earlier in the year.

This consideration, to move Senga to the minors, comes a few days after a five-run loss to the Miami Marlins. While nothing is set in stone yet, the Mets will know of Senga's acceptance of a move to the minor leagues in September.

While it's a move that wouldn't end his 2025 season, it could hurt his confidence. He's struggled lately, but a demotion to the minors could further make things worse, hence why his acceptance of the move is important.

The Mets will know of Senga's decision by Friday, September 5th. For now, the Mets will wait to hear from Senga whether he is accepting of a demotion to the minor leagues.
