The Los Angeles Dodgers are in first place in the National League West, somehow. Despite the strong start, the Dodgers have seen an unreal amount of injuries to the bullpen and the starting rotation.
At the end of May, the Dodgers had $106 million worth of pitchers on the injured list, including Blake Snell, Kirby Yates, Tyler Glasnow and Roki Sasaki.
On Tuesday, the Dodgers made a move in hopes of bringing some help on that front by signing Toronto Blue Jays reliever Jose Urena, as Jon Heyman reported.
"Jose Urena signed with the Dodgers and will be in LA tonight for the game against the Mets"
Urena made one appearance with the New York Mets this season and then went to the Blue Jays. In Toronto, he pitched in six games with a 3.65 ERA in 12.1 innings, but he elected free agency on Monday after clearing waivers.
Now, the Dodgers sign him in an interesting move, but one that is much-needed with an injury-plagued bullpen.
Urena has been around the MLB for quite some time, including stints with the Miami Marlins, Detroit Tigers, Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, and Texas Rangers.
So, the Dodgers mark the ninth team for Urena during his MLB career, and the third already this season.
The Dodgers continue a four-game series against the Mets, where Urena played this season, in LA on Tuesday night, and the veteran is expected to be there.
