Reds-Mets tiebreaker, explained: How 3rd NL Wild Card standings spot will be decided if records are the same image

There is one playoff spot still to be decided in the National League, the third and final Wild Card berth.

Two teams are vying for it with two games to play: the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Mets.

And they enter the weekend with the same record.

Two games left for each team as they both sit at 82-78.

Buckle up. There's still everything to play for.

Who holds the Reds-Mets tiebreaker?

The Cincinnati Reds hold the playoff tiebreaker over the New York Mets.

If they finish with the same record, Cincy would earn the third and final NL Wild Card berth over the Mets.

How is the Reds-Mets tiebreaker decided?

The tiebreaker for the final Wild Card spot between the Reds and Mets is determined by head-to-head record.

The Reds hold the advantage there, winning the season series over the Mets, 4-2.

So as long as the Reds end up even with the Mets by the end of Sunday, they're in. New York needs to make up a game on Cincinnati with just two left to play in order to get in.
