The South Carolina Gamecocks usually land the best women's basketball recruits when they go after them.
Not this time, though. The Iowa Hawkeyes picked up their biggest recruiting win since Caitlin Clark instead.
McKenna Woliczko, a five-star forward, chose Iowa on Wednesday.
Woliczko is rated as the No. 6 recruit in the country by Rivals.
Her final four included the Hawkeyes, Gamecocks, USC and Ohio State.
Woliczko told On3 Sports of Iowa: "All those people supporting women's basketball, I thought that was super cool."
Her game doesn't compare at all to Clark's floor-stretching, dime-dishing prowess. But in the recruiting rankings, it's not often Iowa ascends this high up the board.
Clark was the highest-ranked recruit in program history as part of the Class of 2020, in which she was the No. 4 player.
The Hawkeyes also landed a top-10 recruit in 2011 with Samantha Logic.
According to On3, the highest-rated player on the current roster is freshman Addie Deal, who was No. 15 in the Class of 2025.
Woliczko is from San Jose, California, and measures at 6-foot-2.
In the meantime, South Carolina will continue to reload elsewhere. Staley isn't going to lose her touch anytime soon, and this will likely just be a blip on the path to continued excellence in Columbia.
