Hannah Hidalgo just played maybe the best basketball game a player will play this entire college basketball season.
The diminutive guard needed just 28 minutes in Notre Dame's blowout victory over Akron to set multiple records on Wednesday night.
The most mind-blowing mark: 16 steals.
That's the most in a game in Division I history, according to ESPN.
Hidalgo ended the night with 44 points, which is a new Notre Dame program record.
And for good measure, the 5-foot-6 Hidalgo grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four assists.
Sure, it came against an overmatched Akron team, but it also displayed everything that Hidalgo is capable of.
She gets to carry a heavier load this season after the departure of Olivia Miles in the transfer portal. And if this game is any indication, Hidalgo will be capable of that.
The 16-steal total is about as unfathomable as can be. No one even gets 10 steals in a game. Hidalgo averaged more than a steal every two minutes.
Of course she scored a lot of points after that. Steals turn into easy baskets.
Her night represents one of the coolest things about sports. Everyone who tuned in to Notre Dame's game against Akron would've been expecting a one-sided affair. But no one would've predicted a 44-point, 16-steal performance.
Hidalgo stole the spotlight and made it hers on a night when Notre Dame didn't need her to, but she did anyway. The Fighting Irish will go as far as Hidalgo takes them this season, and so far, so good.
