Chicago Sky roster: How Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso can form a dominant frontcourt duo in 2024 image

Big things are happening in Chicago this summer.

The Chicago Sky entered the 2024 WNBA Draft with the third and seventh picks and left with their frontcourt of the future.

They selected Kamilla Cardoso at No. 3 and Angel Reese at No. 7, who will no longer be SEC rivals. Instead, they'll form a formidable frontcourt in the WNBA.

Cardoso and Reese have a quick turnaround from draft day to their WNBA debut on Wednesday, May 15. Here's what to know about the Sky and their frontcourt of the future.

Chicago Sky record

While Chicago had two first-round picks, including a lottery selection, it didn't have a horrendous 2023 season. The Sky finished the 2023 regular season with an 18-22 record, sneaking into the playoffs as the lowest seed.

Their WNBA postseason ended promptly in a first-round sweep to the eventual champion, the Las Vegas Aces. Although they finished outside the lottery, the Sky owned the Mercury's pick at No. 3 and had swapped picks with the Lynx at No. 7 and No. 8.

The Sky will add two NCAA champions in Cardoso and Reese who will immediately improve the Sky's chances at advancing further into the postseason.

While the Sky lost Kahleah Copper and Courtney Williams during the offseason, they added a dominant frontcourt duo in Cardoso and Reese and guard Brynna Maxwell.

The two rookie bigs should immediately jump into the starting lineup when the season tips off in May. Cardoso is already looking forward to it, and mentioned it'll be a challenge for their opponents on the boards.

Reese was a double-double machine while at LSU, recording 34 in one season which broke the single-season record. She averaged 20.9 points and 14.4 rebounds per game in her two seasons at LSU.

As for Cardoso, she stands at 6-7, which ranks among some of the tallest players in the WNBA. Cardoso shined in her senior season, averaging 14.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.

A dominant frontcourt sells the duo's potential short. They'll join veteran guard Marina Mabrey, who averaged 15 points per game last season.

The Sky also recognized the battle that Reese and Cardoso had in the SEC title game, posting that practice should be "fun."
