The New York Liberty may be forced to play the rest of the season without star Breanna Stewart, who has been diagnosed with a bone bruise.

ESPN reported the news Wednesday, July 30, via social media. "Breanna Stewart has a bone bruise in her right knee, Liberty coach Sandy Brondello confirmed Wednesday," the outlet noted. "Brondello said there is no firm timetable for when Stewart will return to action."

According to the Cleveland Clinic, a bone bruise can take weeks to months to heal properly.

The loss of Stewart on the court puts the Liberty's season in jeopardy. The team most recently lost 101-99 to the Sparks on Saturday, July 26.

The Liberty will play the Lynx Wednesday night, the first match between the two since last year's WNBA Champsionship game.
