The Indiana Fever desperately needed a point guard.

They found one on the free agent market who has quite the pedigree.

On Sunday, the Fever signed Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract.

The move comes after the Fever lost Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald both to season-ending injuries. They basically played Saturday vs. the Sky without a point guard, with Sophie Cunningham filling much of the ball-handling duties.

Sims is a solid pickup, a player who was the No. 2 overall pick in the WNBA Draft way back in 2014 by Tulsa.

The lefty point guard was a star at Baylor and has some solid WNBA seasons before taking a bit of a journey as a reserve and with some injuries in the latter stages of her career.

Sims is 33 years old now.

This season, she played in 12 games for the Los Angeles Sparks, starting 11 of them. She averaged 9.8 points and 3.5 assists per game in those contests.

If she can bring that level of play to the Fever, it'll be a big boost.

Her hardship contract means she's obligated to be released once other players are able to return to the floor.

That is how McDonald began this season with the Fever before playing well enough to earn a rest-of-season contract, so Sims could be eying that opportunity as well.

It's certainly a good chance for Sims to get on a popular team and show she can still get the job done.

Fever fans will be hoping Sims can keep them afloat until Clark is finally ready to return to the court.
