Indiana Fever star Kelsey Mitchell has sparked new speculation over her WNBA future after publishing a cryptic post Monday night.

Taking to her X account, three-time All-Star Mitchell said she doesn't need "nobody holding (her) hand until and unless they really wanna hold it."

She signed off by writing "no favors. No handouts. If you know, you know."

The post comes amid stagnating collective bargaining negotiations in the WNBA -- and mere days before Mitchell takes the court in Unrivaled, the offseason 3-on-3 league that tips off its second season on Jan. 5.

Like virtually all players who aren't on a rookie-scale contract, Mitchell will become a free agent once the WNBA and the Women's National Basketball Players Association agree on a new CBA. The Fever, through general manager Amber Cox and head coach Stephanie White, have repeatedly stated that re-signing Mitchell is their top priority this offseason.

But one possible interpretation of Mitchell's X post points to potential difficulties in returning to Indiana.

"Hope you’re okay and would love to see you back with the Fever next season," one fan wrote.

"Yes she’s leaving (the) Fever. She's been (subtweeting) for weeks now," said another fan.

"Ok Kelz now I'm scared. Either you're leaving the Fever and breaking our hearts or you're pissed off about something and you're about to average 30 a game for us next season," wrote another.

Mitchell last season set a Fever franchise record by averaging 20.2 points per game. She was named first-team All-WNBA at season's end after she guided injury-wracked Indiana to the WNBA semifinals.
