This isn't even adding insult to injury. It's just adding injuries to injury.
The Indiana Fever are in dire straits right now. Caitlin Clark is out with a left quad strain, Indiana lost Friday night, and in the process, two more key Fever pieces got hurt.
First, it was Sydney Colson leaving the game against the Sun with a left leg injury. Colson was the backup to Clark pressed into a much bigger role without the superstar. Now, the Fever don't have a healthy point guard.
And later in the game, Sophie Cunningham re-injured her right ankle that caused problems last season. She stayed down for a while before needing two people to help her off the floor.
There's still a lot of season left, so if the Fever slip up now but then get healthy, they can still accomplish most of their goals.
But it's a weird injury snowball effect right now, and it doesn't look great.
The best thing Indiana did this offseason was bolster Clark's supporting cast so she doesn't get worn down by carrying the load too much. That's all well and good as long as everyone stays healthy.
But if Clark comes back to a depleted roster, she's going to do even more to put the team on her back.
The Fever would certainly prefer their players to shoulder the load together. So the more healthy pieces the merrier, and right now, Indiana is anything but healthy.
