What happened to Caitlin Clark? Latest news on quadriceps injury, return date for Fever star image

Caitlin Clark's sophomore season has been put on hold, as the Fever point guard will miss the next few Fever games.

Clark began the season strong, averaging 19.0 points and 9.3 assists in her first four games of the season, as Indiana began the campaign 2-2. That was following a rookie season when Clark won the WNBA Rookie of the Year award and established herself as a star in the league.

While the Fever look to take another step towards a potential championship, Indiana will have to temporarily do so without Clark. The point guard will miss a game for the first time in her WNBA career when the Fever play the Mystics on Wednesday night.

With Clark out, the Fever will have to rely on Aaliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell to help fill the void in the meantime. Indiana has not had to play a regular-season game without Clark since the 2023 season, making the immediate future a new experience for the team.

Here's why Clark is sitting out Indiana's game against Washington.

What happened to Caitlin Clark?

The Fever announced on Monday that Clark suffered a left quadriceps injury, sidelining the star point guard for at least two weeks. The injury occurred during an Indiana practice session, and her return date is unclear as Clark will be re-evaluated at the two-week mark to further understand the injury timeline.

Clark missed the Fever's first preseason game on May 3 with a left leg injury, but the Fever didn't say if this injury was related. Clark then played every Indiana game until suffering the quad injury.

When will Caitlin Clark play again?

Clark will be re-evaluated after the first week of June, but that doesn't mean she will return at that point. The Fever medical staff will determine whether Clark can return to action immediately or whether she will need more time to rehab or recover.

The earliest Clark can return is Tuesday, June 10, when the Fever plays the Dream in Atlanta. If she can't play in that game, Clark's next opportunities to play would be June 14 vs. the Liberty or June 17 vs. the Sun.

Quad injury timeline

Clark's return date will be determined by the severity of her quad injury, which the Fever have not made public.

A Grade 1 quad injury typically takes a couple of weeks to recover, while a Grade 2 injury means the player would miss closer to a month of recovery.
