Is Caitlin Clark playing today? Latest news on Fever star's status for game vs. Valkyries image

Caitlin Clark's health has quickly become a major storyline for the Fever this season.

Indiana, sitting at 9-9 so far, has only gotten nine total games from its star guard so far. First, Clark missed an extended period due to a quad injury. Then, after returning to the floor for a few games, Clark has missed five consecutive games with a groin ailment (including the Commissioner's Cup Championship).

Since June 24, the guard has been sidelined with her injury, a span in which the Fever have gone 3-2, but for Wednesday's matchup against the Valkyries, there's an increasing chance that Clark will be back in action.

As long as her injury doesn't flare up pregame, all signals are that Clark will return to action for Wednesday's game against Golden State. Fever head coach Stephanie White said Tuesday that Clark would be available for the matchup barring any regression, per Chloe Peterson.

Clark then spoke to the media herself, saying she's looking forward to getting "back out there" and that it's been "hard sitting out and watching for a few weeks."

"I hope to play a decent amount, maybe upper-20s (in minutes), I guess it just depends how I feel and how the game goes," Clark said. "I feel pretty good but probably should try not to overdo it as well."

Clark looked pretty healthy at practice on Tuesday as well, launching a pass deep into the seats of Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

What is Caitlin Clark's injury?

Clark has been absent for Indiana's past five games, including the Commissioner's Cup Championship, with a groin injury. However, the extent of the ailment is unknown.

Initially, when Clark was first ruled out on June 26, it seemed to be just a night for rest with a busy portion of the schedule. However, she then missed a few more games, increasing the concern. The Fever won the Commissioner's Cup over Minnesota anyway, however.

The Fever appeared to be playing it safe with Clark's groin injury, but she's tracking toward a return following her five-game absence.

Caitlin Clark stats

Clark's red-hot start to the new season cooled down in her most recent games. She posted three double-doubles and a 32-point game within her first five matchups of the season, but on both June 22 against the Aces and June 24 against the Storm, Clark shot under 36.0 percent from the field, registered eight turnovers in each game, and went just 1-for 16 from deep as a whole.

Here's a look at Clark's full numbers so far in her second WNBA season:
