How long is Caitlin Clark out? Groin injury timeline, return date, latest updates on Fever star image

The 2025 WNBA season has been a difficult one for Fever star Caitlin Clark, and she has been dealt another setback.

After missing nine of her team's first 18 games with quad and groin ailments, Clark returned to the lineup on July 9. That return was short-lived, however, as Clark sustained another groin injury in her fourth game back on the court, causing concern and casting doubt for the immediate future.

Clark, 23, had an incredible run of durability throughout her career up to this season. Her absence five games into the season marked the first time she had missed time due to an injury in college or the pros. Now, she has missed extended time with her latest setback.

What is Caitlin Clark's injury?

Clark sustained a right groin injury late in Indiana's win over Connecticut

With under a minute remaining in the game, Clark found a cutting Kelsey Mitchell for a backdoor layup. On the pass, Clark appeared to tweak her groin and came up in pain, holding back tears with a towel over her head for the game's final moments.

After the game, Fever head coach Stephanie White said that Clark "felt a little something in her groin" and added that the injury will be further evaluated in the coming days.

How long will Caitlin Clark be out?

As with any soft-tissue injury, the time Clark misses depends on the designation and severity of the groin issue.

Nearly three weeks into Clark's absence, the Fever provided a positive update on her status, as shared by ESPN's Holly Rowe on Sunday, Aug. 3. "She has started some full-court running — full-speed running, the last four or five days. Still not doing full basketball activities, but there has been some progress made recently."

She missed out on All-Star festivities in Indianapolis as she announced, "I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say I can't participate in the 3-Point Contest or the All-Star Game."

Earlier this season, Clark missed five games over two weeks with a left groin injury. It was never determined what exactly Clark did to her left groin, but the injury was treated as a groin strain.

This new injury is with Clark's right groin. While she was initially listed as questionable for the game following the injury, she was ruled out.

On July 16, head coach Stephanie White considered Clark's availability on a game-to-game basis.
