As the 2025 regular season winds down, the WNBA playoff picture remains in a state of flux. Five teams are fighting to secure the final four playoff spots -- with one of them, the Indiana Fever, still hoping that star guard Caitlin Clark will return in the coming days to aid their postseason chase.

Clark, still on the mend from a right groin injury, is poised to miss her 19th consecutive game on Tuesday, when the Fever visit the Phoenix Mercury. Indiana's 21-19 record right now is good enough for the eighth and final playoff spot, and the Fever's options to move up were dented Monday by the Atlanta Dream.

The Dream's 93-76 win over the Connecticut Sun took their record to 26-14 -- meaning the Fever, mathematically, cannot catch up. It reduces Indiana's options to climb up the standings in the coming days, as finishing fourth or even fifth appears remote.

Still, ESPN's Basketball Power Index likes Indiana's chances to reach the postseason for the second year running. The BPI believes the Fever has a 97.4 percent chance to hold off the Los Angeles Sparks and qualify for the playoffs.

With games remaining against the already-eliminated Chicago Sky and Washington Mystics, Indiana will still feel good about its chances -- and a possible playoff trump card in Clark waiting patiently in the wings to be cleared for a return to action.
