The Texas high school football season is at the midway point as the calendar turns over to October. Week 5 had its fair share of outstanding performances.
We have once again narrowed down 25 of the top players across the Lone Star State, including a pair of teammates.
The Sporting News will continue to highlight the state’s top players each week of the season leading up to the UIL state championships in Arlington in December.

Top performances from Week 5 of Texas high school football
SaRod Baker, DeSoto: The junior running back finished with 217 rushing yards and three touchdowns to lead the Eagles to a big 40-17 victory over Waxahachie. Baker also threw for 58 yards to help guide DeSoto to its third straight win.

Brock Belcher, Windthorst: Belcher continued his incredible junior campaign by etching his name in the school record book last week with seven passing touchdowns in a 69-7 win over Seymour. Belcher was 25-of-32 for 428 yards and seven touchdowns with no INTs. He added 62 rushing yards on six attempts for the 3-2 (1-0) Trojans.
Kayson Brooks, Kilgore: Brooks and the Bulldogs opened District 9-4A Division I play with a 35-7 victory over Longview Pine Tree. The senior QB1 had a big game, going 17-of-20 for 203 yards and four touchdowns and rushing for 52 yards. Kilgore is 4-1 (1-0).
Mason Burdo, Gladewater: The Bears opened District 8-3A Division I play with a big 28-27 win over Jefferson. It’s a safe bet Jefferson’s offensive players won’t forget No. 10. The senior middle linebacker tallied 16 tackles, including one for loss. He also caught a pass for three yards.
Josh Childress, Troup: Childress was nearly perfect, going 15-of-18 passing for 269 yards and four touchdowns without an interception to lead the Tigers to a 42-6 trouncing of previously unbeaten Arp. Through five games, the junior has thrown for 1,057 yards with 13 touchdowns and just two picks.

Caleb Crenshaw, Austin Anderson: The Trojan offense leaned heavily on Crenshaw in a massive 42-40 five-overtime thriller over defending District 12-5A Division I champion A&M Consolidated on the road. The Austin LBJ transfer racked up 206 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries (6.1 yards per carry) and caught one pass for six yards for unbeaten Anderson.
Lincoln Frazier, Willis: The freshman QB1 is keeping up a rich tradition of star quarterbacks for the Wildkats. In last week’s 49-7 district victory over Cleveland, Frazier was 15-of-18 passing for 253 yards and seven touchdowns without a pick. He also had two carries for nine yards for Willis, which is now at 4-1 (3-0).

Garrett Hess, Muenster: The senior receiver was a match-up nightmare for De Leon. He hauled in seven passes for 127 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Hornets to a 47-16 win. Hess had one receiving touchdown this season heading into last week’s game.
Brett Holloway Jr., Melissa: The senior signal-caller led the Cardinals to a huge 40-34 upset win over Anna by throwing for 167 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 124 yards and three more trips to the end zone.
Callan Kirk, Houston Stratford: The junior linebacker had a monster game to help the Spartans roll past Cypress Creek. Kirk tallied 10 tackles, including five for loss and 3.5 sacks. The win was the first of the season for Houston Stratford.
Josiah Lucas, South Grand Prairie: Lucas racked up 223 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries (7.2 yards per carry) and caught two passes for 43 yards and another touchdown in a 48-31 win over Arlington. The Warriors are 4-0 (2-0) this season.
Jaxxon Marie, Cuero: The senior quarterback had another huge night in a 50-43 shootout win over Belton. Marie was 24-of-35 for 328 yards and five touchdowns without an interception. He threw two touchdowns each to D’Zayvin Bonner and Walker Dietze. The Gobblers are 5-0 on the season.
Noah Martin, Levelland: Martin made big-time plays on both sides of the ball for the Lobos in a 40-33 district win over San Angelo Lake View. The sophomore two-way starter rushed for 197 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries (11.6 yards per carry) on offense and made eight tackles, including two for loss, on defense.
Zyler McClendon, Stephenville: The junior running back led the Yellow Jackets to an impressive 64-28 thumping of Waco La Vega by tallying 207 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries for an average of 23 yards per attempt. Stephenville is 5-0 on the season.
Tyson Price, Ponder: Ponder these numbers: 281 passing yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions, 217 rushing yards and another score. That’s what Price did to lead the Lions to a 32-29 win over Boyd. The senior was two yards shy of 500 yards of total offense.
Buck Randall, Highland Park: The Scots needed every bit of what their junior quarterback gave them in a 70-66 road win over Tyler. Randall was 27-of-40 for 468 yards and three touchdowns. Randall also rushed for two touchdowns in the victory.
Lott Robison, Crosby: Robison was money in the bank for the Cougars in a 69-6 thumping of Pasadena. The junior signal-caller was 10-of-13 for 215 yards and five touchdowns without an interception. He added a 13-yard rushing touchdown to lead Crosby to its first win in 2025.
Wyatt Rochner, Granger: Rochner directed a Lions offense that was nearly unstoppable in a 77-31 win over Bartlett that kept Granger undefeated. The senior was 14-of-19 for 296 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown on six carries.
Jaxon Schad, Pflugerville Weiss: The sophomore standout came up big last week to lead the Wolves to a 41-21 victory over Pflugerville Hendrickson. Schad threw for 237 yards and four touchdowns with two picks. He also rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. Weiss is 4-1 (2-1) on the season.

Cooper Schilling, Perryton: A dual-threat QB1, Schilling gave the Pampa defense fits in a 49-35 shootout win for the Rangers. He was 22-of-26 for 211 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions and rushed for 148 yards and three more scores on 20 carries (7.4 yards per carry).
Sean Simon, La Porte: The super sophomore running back was at it again in a 57-21 district victory over Friendswood. Simon rushed for 268 yards and five touchdowns on 30 carries (8.9 yards per carry). He is averaging 229.5 yards per contest for the 3-1 (1-0) Bulldogs.
Deuce Timmons, Sulphur Springs: The Wildcats are rolling. Last week, Sulphur Springs crushed Aubrey, 45-14, to open District 7-4A Division I play and remain unbeaten. Timmons gave the Chaps defense fits by going 14-of-19 for 190 yards and four touchdowns without an interception and rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown. Timmons has 21 TD’s (13 passing, eight rushing) in 2025.

Seth Truette, Archer City: Although the sophomore quarterback was 0-of-2 passing, he more than made up for it by rushing for 271 yards and three touchdowns on 41 carries (6.6 yards per carry) to lead the Wildcats to a 44-37 win over Munday. He also made three tackles, including one for loss, to help Archer City record its first win of the season.
Cade Wallace, South Grand Prairie: It’s not easy to have two players from the same team on our list, but Wallace had a huge night on defense. The senior cornerback had three interceptions, four solo tackles and broke up a pass to help South Grand Prairie knock off Arlington, 48-31.
Landen Williams-Callis, Richmond Randle: A mainstay on the Texas top performers weekly list, Williams-Callis helped the Lions hold off Iowa Colony with his best game of the season. The junior tallied 342 yards and six touchdowns on 28 carries. He has 1,205 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2025. Wow.
