In the second week of the Texas high school football playoffs, several players found their way to the end zone at least five times.

Even those that didn’t have that many scores still made a huge impact in helping their squads be able to practice and play on Thanksgiving week.

Here’s a look at those top performers from the second week of the Texas playoffs. Also, readers can now vote on who they think should be the Texas Player of the Week. Vote as many times as you like until 11:59 p.m. CT on Sunday, and the winner will be announced next week.

Top performances from Week 2 of the playoffs in Texas high school football

Chase Ames, Dripping Springs

Ames, a junior quarterback, completed 17-of-25 passes for 309 yards and four TDs as the Tigers downed San Antonio Harlan, 52-28.

SaRod Baker, DeSoto

Baker, a junior tailback, rushed for 371 yards on 22 carries and scored five TDs in the Eagles’ 60-28 6A DII area round win against Longview, avenging a loss to the Lobos in last year’s playoffs. Three of his TDs covered 59, 60 and 67 yards.

Jermaine Bishop, Willis

The Wildkats’ senior all-around standout and University of Texas commit caught seven passes for 160 yards and a TD, rushed for two TDs and also threw a two-point conversion pass in a 34-27 win against Tomball in the 6A DII playoffs. Bishop now has at least 2,000 all-purpose yards for the third consecutive season and he also became the all-time leader in receptions in the Houston metropolitan area with 257.

Gavin Black, Odessa Permian

A senior tailback, Black carried the ball 28 times for 190 yards and two TDs to lift the Panthers past Mansfield Lake Ridge, 30-28, in the 6A DI playoffs.

Ty Carter, La Vernia

A junior, Carter rushed for 254 yards on 16 carries with four TDs and also had 153 kick return yards, including a 95-yard return for another score in the Bears’ 51-33 win against Somerset.

Jack Devine, Austin Regents

Devine, a junior quarterback, completed 14-of-20 passes for 230 yards and four TDs while rushing for 114 yards on 16 carries and a TD in the Knights’ 48-15 win against Midland Christian in the TAPPS Division II playoffs.

Benny Easter Jr., Humble Summer Creek

Easter, a junior receiver and Texas Tech commit, caught six passes for 252 yards and scored five TDs in the Bulldogs’ 72-35 win against Manvel in the 6A DII area round. He had 170 yards after catch in that win.

Kade Franklin, Ropes

A senior quarterback, Franklin was 11-of-14 passing for 126 yards and three TDs and even caught a 21-yard TD pass while also kicking two PATs in the Eagles’ 67-0 win against Farwell.

DK Garza, San Antonio Alamo Heights

Garza, a senior tailback, rushed for 275 yards on just 12 carries and scored six TDs while also catching two passes for 48 yards in the Mules’ 63-21 win against previously undefeated Mercedes in the 5A DII playoffs.

Jayshon Gibson, Richland

A junior tailback, Gibson rushed for 321 yards on 16 carries and scored seven TDs while also adding a TD reception in the Royals’ 70-37 win against El Paso El Dorado in the 5A DI playoffs.

Mykha Green, Sinton

Green rushed for 301 yards and five TDs on 22 carries in the Pirates’ 52-21 win against Jarrell. He is the Pirates’ all-time rushing leader.

Brox Hacker, Canyon

The Eagles’ junior QB was 9-of-10 passing for 256 yards and three TDs; then rushed for 143 yards on 23 carries and a score in Canyon’s 31-28 win against Brownwood.

John Hebert, Houston Strake Jesuit

Hebert, a senior tailback and University of Houston commit, had 443 total yards, 351 of those on the ground, and scored seven TDs in the Crusaders’ 50-35 win against Houston Lamar in the 6A DI playoffs. Hebert, who now has nearly 3,550 yards rushing this season, needs 49 more yards to reach 8,000 yards in his career.

Rayshun Hurt, San Antonio Johnson

The senior tailback ran for 161 yards on 17 carries and scored three TDs as the Jaguars reached the regional semifinal round for the first time since 2013 with a 56-37 win against Hutto in the 6A DI playoffs.

Gary Jefferson Jr., Bastrop

Jefferson, a senior tailback, rushed for 381 yards on 34 carries and scored six TDs while catching five passes for 47 yards and another score in the Bears’ 69-42 win against Waco University.

Bosston Johnson, Longview Pine Tree

Johnson, a junior, caught six passes for 114 yards and two TDs, recorded 15 tackles on defense along with an interception and two forced fumbles, and returned a punt 50 yards for another score in the Pirates’ 35-27 win against Houston Yates, sending Pine Tree to the third round of the playoffs for the first time in program history.

Nunu Kennedy, Elysian Fields

Kennedy, a senior, completed 10-of-17 passes for 200 yards and two TDs, rushed for 208 yards on 28 carries with four TDs and caught a 25-yard pass for another score in the Yellowjackets’ wild 55-54 overtime win against Garrison in the 2A DI area round. His seven total TDs set a new single-game school record.

Chase Lantelme, Stratford

A junior quarterback/defensive back, Lantelme completed 11-of-18 passes for 195 yards and four TDs while on defense, recorded eight tackles, an interception and two deflected passes in the Elks’ 35-0 win against Tahoka.

Jayden Maples, Frisco Wakeland

The quarterback was 18-of-25 passing for 389 yards and four TDs in Wakeland’s 43-36 win against Cedar Park in the 5A DI area round.

Amante Martin, Port Arthur Memorial

Martin, a senior quarterback, threw for 40 yards while rushing for 223 yards on 30 carries and scoring three TDs in the Titans’ 44-27 win against College Station A&M Consolidated in the 5A DI playoffs.

David Olotu-Judah, Katy

A sophomore defensive back, Olotu-Judah intercepted three passes and made three tackles, helping fuel the Tigers’ defense in their 48-7 win against Houston Memorial in the 6A DII playoffs. Olotu-Judah now has seven interceptions on the season.

Javian Osborne, Forney

Osborne, a senior tailback, rushed for 301 yards on 20 carries and scored five TDs as the Jackrabbits held off Harker Heights, 48-44, in the 6A DII area round. A Notre Dame commit, Osborne also became Forney’s all-time leading rusher in the win and now has 6,506 career yards.

Briggs Satterfield, Gruver

A senior quarterback, Satterfield threw for 89 yards and two TDs while rushing 25 times for 145 yards and scoring five TDs in the Greyhounds’ 40-14 win against Wink.

Laiton Springer, San Antonio Pieper

A junior linebacker, Springer was in on 15 tackles, including 12 solo stops, along with five tackles for loss, four sacks and seven quarterback hurries in Pieper’s 42-35 win against Corpus Christi Flour Bluff.

Keimarion Wiggins, Bay City

Wiggins, a junior quarterback, threw a TD pass but did most of his damage on the ground, running for 178 yards and three TDs in the Blackcats’ 34-19 win against Austin LBJ in the 4A DI playoffs.
