In the end, the streak had to end at the hands of another MAC school.

The Midwest Athletic Conference has a case as the best small school high school football league in the country. And of late, Marion Local (from Maria Stein, Ohio) has been the class of the MAC.

The Flyers entered Friday night having won 76 consecutive games, including four state championships in a row.

But this was a game circled on the calendar all year long as the possible end to the nation's longest active high school football winning streak.

St. Henry, having lost by a touchdown to Marion Local in Week 3, got its rematch. It would be for a Division VII regional title, for a spot in the state final four.

And this time, St. Henry left no doubt.

Marion Local's streak ended, and comfortably.

The Flyers scored first to take a 7-0 lead. The Redskins then rattled off 24 unanswered points for a 24-7 victory.

St. Henry quarterback Charlie Werling rushed for four touchdowns. The Redskins didn't convert any of their 2-point tries, but it didn't matter.

Their defense never wavered, and their leader Werling controlled the clock and the game.

St. Henry will now have a chance to chase a state championship. It's not unfamiliar territory. Like the rest of the MAC, there's a proud football tradition here, in this case six state titles.

But the most recent state championship came in 2006. It's been a while, and the intervening years weren't always the best.

This team, though, was always viewed as having the potential to be different.

And on this night, they showed they were different than anyone else.

No one else could beat Marion Local. St. Henry did.

And for that, this St. Henry 2025 football team will never be forgotten
