One of the top high school receivers in Louisiana is planning to stay in-state beyond this season.

And he really wanted to make his commitment announcement on a day in which he wanted to honor a member of his family.

Brayden Allen, a senior receiver at Lafayette Christian Academy, announced his commitment to Tulane University. He chose the Green Wave over three schools out of state, which were Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and Boston College.

The announcement was made on Wednesday night. The date of July 16 was even more meaningful for Allen, because it fell on the birthday of his late uncle, Jeremy Daniels, who passed away 10 years ago.

“He used to always tell me, I was going to make it to the (National Football) League,” Allen said in an interview with Lafayette TV station KATC. “He always believed in me. … He’s here with me; we did this on his birthday; like we’re here to celebrate his birthday, celebrate my commitment. It just means a lot to me.”

Allen, a three-star recruit who goes 6-foot-1 and weighs 170 pounds, caught 55 passes last season for 1,157 yards - just the second player in program history to have more than 1,000 receiving yards in a single season - and 10 TDs. He was the Most Valuable Player in his district and was a first-team All-State selection by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

As a sophomore, Allen caught 20 passes for 303 yards for an LCA squad that reached the Division II Select state championship game.
