Form held for the majority of the Texas top 25 in last week’s games, but a couple of upsets led to two new teams — San Antonio Brennan and Humble Atascocita — joining the party.
Two defending state champions lost to end their long winning streaks, as Brennan beat defending Class 5A Division I state champ Smithson Valley for the second straight season, while Holliday did likewise to defending Class 2A Division II state champion Muenster.
Duncanville, the top-ranked team in Texas and No. 5 in The Sporting News national top 25, opened its season with a seven-point win over Dallas South Oak Cliff, while Galena Park North Shore, Austin Westlake, Highland Park, Kilgore and Argyle got back on track after season-opening losses. Here are our new rankings:

After watching most of the rest of Texas open the season two weeks ago, the Panthers had to wait until last week to get going. Duncanville started off on the right foot by knocking off Dallas South Oak Cliff, 35-28, but the Panthers have another bye this week before a Week 4 showdown at Waxahachie.
