South Oak Cliff - the UIL 5A Division II runner-up the last two years and ranked No. 4 in Texas this week - opened the new season last week with a 41-31 win at home against perennial power Galena Park North Shore. The Golden Bears were powered by the running of seniors Mikail Trotter and Levon Morton.

Trotter rushed for 178 yards on 26 carries and two TDs, while Morton had 156 yards on 10 carries. The two helped SOC compile 413 yards of rushing and four scores.

Now, the Golden Bears set their sights on Duncanville, which is opening its 2025 season Friday.

The Panthers finished 13-1 last season and reached the UIL 6A DI semifinals before falling to North Crowley, which went on to claim the title. Duncanville returns five offensive starters and six on the defensive side, most notably receiver Zach Turner and defensive end KJ Ford, a Florida commit.
