A former Katy standout now seeks to take down his alma mater in the area round of the Texas high school football playoffs.

Brooks Haack, who played quarterback for the Tigers, is now the head coach at Houston Memorial. Friday night, Haack and his Mustangs will face his former coach, Gary Joseph, as Memorial faces Katy Friday night at Houston’s Tully Stadium in the UIL 6A Division II area playoffs.

Houston Memorial enters Friday’s playoff game with a 10-1 record. In the Mustangs’ playoff opener last week, they built a 43-6 halftime lead en route to a 50-6 win against Houston Wisdom.

Katy started its season 0-2, but has won nine straight since. Like Houston Memorial, the Tigers had a relatively easy time of things in their bi-district playoff game last week, taking a 35-0 halftime lead in an eventual 42-7 win against Richmond George Ranch.

POSTGAME

- Katy coach Gary Joseph gets the better of his former standout player, current Memorial coach Brooks Haack, as the Tigers turn in a dominating performance in the area round. Katy moves on to next week's regional semifinals. 

FOURTH QUARTER

- TOUCHDOWN KATY. Memorial got on the board late in the third, but the Tigers come right back as Craig Watts scores from 25 yards out. (Katy, 48-7 | 9:00, 4th) 

THIRD QUARTER

- TOUCHDOWN KATY. Tremayne Hill with his third TD run on the night. Also this quarter, Tiger defensive back David Olutu-Judah had his third interception of the game. (Katy, 41-0 | 6:00, 3rd) 

- TOUCHDOWN KATY. Tigers still in command early in the second half, as Tony Manuel goes in from 9 yards out. (Katy, 34-0 | 9:40, 3rd) 

HALFTIME

- Katy continued to add to its lead by getting another field goal, this coming in the closing seconds of the first half for a 27-point advantage. 

SECOND QUARTER

- Memorial gets past midfield but goes backward. Mustangs then fake a punt on fourth down, but a Katy defender reads the play and swarms the punter for another loss. 

- TOUCHDOWN KATY. Tigers build their lead as Tony Manuel goes in from 5 yards out. (Katy, 24-0 | 5:32, 2nd) 

- TOUCHDOWN KATY. Tremayne Hill finds the end zone for the second time tonight, this time going in from 19 yards out. (Katy, 17-0 | 11:00, 2nd) 

FIRST QUARTER

- FIELD GOAL KATY. Tigers score again on their second series, this time as Gio Moreno's field goal attempt from 29 yards out is true. Drive was set up by an interception from David Olutu-Judah. (Katy, 10-0 | 7:00, 1st) 

- TOUCHDOWN KATY. In just two plays on Katy's opening drive, the Tigers punch it in as Tremayne Hill darts in from 38 yards out. (Katy, 7-0 | 10:36, 1st) 

- Katy's defense forces a three-and-out on the opening series, and the Tigers will get the ball following a punt. 

- Memorial, which is the visiting team in Friday's game, will field the opening kickoff.

PREGAME

- Live from Houston, it will be Houston Memorial taking on Katy in the 6A Division II area playoff round.
