Lamar Brown attends high school on LSU’s campus in Baton Rouge.

So, it may not be much of a surprise that Brown - a Class of 2026 five-star lineman from University Lab which sits on the edge of the LSU campus - committed to the Tigers during a ceremony Thursday afternoon. But recruiting insiders thought Brown’s choice was too close to call, with Texas A&M making serious overtures.

In the end, though, Brown (6-foot-4, 285 pounds) - considered the No. 1 recruit in Louisiana - chose the Tigers over the Aggies as well as other finalists Texas and Miami (Fla.).

“It always started off with (LSU) coach (Brian) Kelly,” Brown said in an interview with area publication The Advocate. “That was my first offer. He always believed in me.

“Just the coaches here, playing for Baton Rouge, playing for the state of Louisiana, it meant a lot.”

Brown’s commitment continues to bolster the Tigers’ recruiting efforts in the Class of ’26 cycle under Kelly. LSU, which now has 15 commitments with Brown’s decision, moves into the Top 5 of the latest On3 nationwide rankings, and the Tigers are now ranked No. 3 in the SEC behind Georgia (No. 2 nationally) and Texas A&M (No. 3 nationally).

In addition, LSU has done a tremendous job of landing in-state recruits. Of those 15 commits, nine come from Louisiana, the latest being Brown, who is also considered the No. 1 athlete in the nation by On3 and is projected to play on the defensive line for the Tigers.

This past spring, Brown also won the Class 3A state championship in track in the discus throw, the second straight year he has achieved that feat.
