Edmond (Oklahoma) Memorial was ready to kick off the 2025 football season, as they scored three touchdowns in the first quarter against Del City.

The Eagles did help Edmond Memorial build their lead, throwing three interceptions in the first quarter. The dream start was more than enough to secure a victory, as Edmond Memorial defeated Del City, 35-0.

“We came out and made many big plays,” Edmond Memorial coach Justin Meredith said. “It was just our night, but I have to say Del City is a very good football team. It would not surprise me if they make another run in Class 5A like they did last season.”

These two teams played last season, and ironically, the final score was 35-0 in favor of Edmond Memorial.

The Bulldogs scored their other two touchdowns Friday in the fourth quarter. They threw two touchdowns, scored two rushing touchdowns and returned a punt.

Edmond Memorial (1-0) will play next Friday at crosstown foe Deer Creek for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Del City (0-1) will also be in action next Friday as the Eagles play host to Tulsa Booker T. Washington, also at 7 p.m.

Below are the key takeaways from this contest.

Key Takeaways

  • The game was all Edmond Memorial in the first quarter, as they scored three touchdowns. The Eagles made many mistakes, setting up Edmond Memorial with short fields. Del City committed 11 penalties, threw three interceptions and used all their timeouts in the first quarter.
  • Edmond Memorial scored two rushing touchdowns: Nick Booker scored a 3-yard rushing touchdown and Aaron Lopez added a 39-yard rushing touchdown.
  • The Bulldogs also registered two passing touchdowns. Dawson Beaulieu threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Issac Woodard, along with a 28-yard touchdown to Cameron Quarrels.
  • Gage Massey returned a 42-yard punt in the third quarter for another TD. He reversed his field, and outran the entire Del City punt team.
  • Last season, these two teams met, and Edmond Memorial won 35-0, resulting in the same score this season.
  • In the second half, Tripp Roberts from Edmond Memorial blocked two punts, setting up great field position for Edmond Memorial.
  • Del City’s Quincy Hill struggled to throw the ball away, and took two long sacks in the second half.
  • These two teams made the semifinals last season, and look to do so again. Realistically, both teams have great chances to do so, returning many players along with great coaching staffs.
