Denton Ryan (TX) edges Mansfield Timberview (TX): Live updates, score of Thursday night early-season contest image

Denton Ryan came up one game short of playing for a Texas UIL 5A Division I state championship.

The Raiders attempt to finish the job in 2025, and after starting this season with a win, they attempt to go to 2-0 with a win Thursday night at Mansfield Timberview in a game that will be broadcast on the NFHS Network.

Denton Ryan (1-0), which went 13-2 a season ago, opened its season with a 26-20 win at home against Haslet Eaton. Meanwhile, Timberview - 6-5 a season ago - also won its season opener last week, as the Wolves came away with a 27-0 road win at Dallas Kimball.

POSTGAME

- Ryan knocks away a Hail Mary attempt in the end zone and survive Timberview to improve to 2-0. Wolves drop to 1-1.

FOURTH QUARTER

- Timberview at the Ryan 39 with two seconds left. 

- Timberview has the ball near the Ryan 40 with 10 seconds left. 

- Ryan turns away Timberview once again in the red zone. On a fourth-and-goal, a pass appeared to be caught in the end zone, but officials ruled the receiver had both feet out of bounds. We have two minutes left.

- Timberview's defense holds and forces Ryan to punt deep in its own territory. Wolves get great field position into Raider territory with less than five minutes left. 

- Timberview got inside the 10, but on a fourth-and-goal, a pass falls incomplete and Ryan takes over with less than seven minutes remaining. 

- TOUCHDOWN DENTON RYAN. Raiders get a huge play on defense early in the final quarter as Uzziah Warmate forced a fumble, and Errol West recovered and took it to the house. (Denton Ryan, 20-12 | 11:07, 4th) 

THIRD QUARTER

- TOUCHDOWN DENTON RYAN. Raiders finally get into the end zone as Rontavian Brown runs it in from 7 yards out. PAT is good and the Raiders are in front. (Denton Ryan, 13-12 | 1:44, 4th) 

- Timberview's defense has come to play. Wolves stop Ryan on a fourth down play in the red zone and keep Rangers out of the end zone once more early in the second half.

HALFTIME

- Timberview keeps Ryan out of the end zone in the first half, with a huge special teams play the difference thus far.

SECOND QUARTER

- TOUCHDOWN TIMBERVIEW. Wow, a play by special teams to put the Wolves back in front. A muffed punt, and Davin Hill recovers and goes in from 80 yards out. Timberview misses another PAT. (Timberview, 12-6 | 1:52, 2nd) 

- FIELD GOAL DENTON RYAN. Raiders tie the score on a 44-yard attempt which splits the uprights. (6-6 | 8:03, 2nd) 

- TOUCHDOWN TIMBERVIEW. WR Kobe Gooden hauls in a catch in the end zone. PAT is missed, but the Wolves are in front. (Timberview, 6-3 | 9:15, 2nd) 

FIRST QUARTER

- FIELD GOAL DENTON RYAN. Raiders get on the board with a 24-yard attempt which is good. (Denton Ryan, 3-0 | 2:16, 2nd) 

Denton Ryan with a chance to score, but the Raiders miss a field goal from 39 yards out. Scoreless nearly eight minutes in.
