Week 7 of Idaho high school football produced one of the season's most shocking upsets as Middleton stormed back into the rankings with a stunning takedown of previously unbeaten Timberline. The Vikings' statement victory headlined a week that saw the state's elite programs continue to separate themselves from the pack, while several teams jockeying for position in the middle of the rankings made their cases with dominant performances.
The top of the rankings remained remarkably stable, with the state's undefeated powers rolling through another week of competition. Bishop Kelly, Rocky Mountain, Eagle, Hillcrest, Kendrick and Lakeland all extended their perfect records with convincing victories. But Timberline's stumble opened the door for significant reshuffling in the middle tier, where quality wins and strong performances created opportunities for teams to climb.
So here are this week's state rankings:
1. Bishop Kelly (6-0) — The Knights dismantled Skyview 64-0 on Thursday night, jumping out to a 50-0 halftime lead while holding the Hawks to just 165 total yards and forcing three turnovers. Quarterback Ben Avella went 5-for-5 for 129 yards and three touchdowns in limited duty. Boston Huskey hauled in three passes for 82 yards and two scores, while Eli Lynes added 80 yards and two touchdowns on just four carries.
2. Rocky Mountain (6-0) — The Grizzlies earned their first shutout of the season with a 69-0 demolition of Meridian in 6A SIC Foothills Division play. Quarterback Kaelan Custer went 6-for-8 passing for 91 yards and a touchdown while adding 116 rushing yards and two more scores. Tyke Harper contributed 107 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. Rocky Mountain totaled 479 yards - including 380 on the ground - while limiting Meridian to 48 yards.
3. Rigby (5-1) — The Trojans delivered a 52-21 thrashing of Highland. Running back Amani Morel led the attack with 17 carries for 125 yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback Jake Flowers contributed 92 yards and a score on 10 rushes plus 10-of-15 passing for 248 yards and three touchdowns. With four of the last six state titles, the defending state champions remain among Idaho's most dangerous teams.
4. Eagle (6-0) — Everyone knew where the ball was going, but no one could stop senior Noah Burnham. The state's leading rusher ran for 177 yards and three touchdowns to lead Eagle to a 34-20 victory at Owyhee. Burnham even showcased his arm, hitting Aiden Kindrick for a 49-yard touchdown on a halfback pass. The win moved Eagle one step closer to clinching a fourth straight 6A SIC River Division title.
5. Hillcrest (6-0) — The defending 5A state champions stayed perfect with a 41-21 victory over Blackfoot. Quarterback Tyson Sweetwood went 13-of-17 for 172 yards and two touchdowns while adding 80 rushing yards and another score. Daxon Sargent provided the ground game punch with three touchdown runs and 65 yards as the Knights solidify their status among the state's elite.
6. Skyline (5-1) — The Grizzlies rolled to their best start in five years with a 29-10 victory over Shelley. The win kept Skyline positioned among the state's top programs as they build momentum in the 6A South East Idaho Conference race.
7. Kendrick (7-0) ↑1 — The four-time reigning Class 1A state champions extended their dominance with a 68-0 demolition of Potlatch. Junior quarterback Maddox Kirkland completed 8-of-11 passes for 247 yards with four touchdowns, while senior running back Tanner Clemenhagen ran for nearly 200 yards. The Tigers have pushed their winning streak to 11 games and outscored opponents 483-8 this season.
8. Lakeland (7-0) ↑1 — The Hawks extended their best start in over two decades to 7-0 with a 62-0 blanking of Timberlake. The dominant performance showcased Lakeland's balanced attack and stifling defense as they write their historic season.
9. Sugar-Salem (5-1) ↑1 — The reigning 4A state champions, who have won six of the last seven state titles, posted a commanding 42-0 blanking of Preston. The Diggers stay well-positioned as they show the championship mettle that has made them a perennial contender.
10. Homedale (6-0) ↑1 — The Trojans reached 6-0 for the third consecutive season after a 24-14 victory over Weiser. Quarterback Xavier Uranga finished 9-for-14 passing for 182 yards with three touchdowns, while Lukas Hall caught two scoring strikes and added a 23-yard field goal. The victory sets up a showdown of unbeatens next week when Homedale travels to face Fruitland.
11. Fruitland (6-0) ↑1 — The Grizzlies kept their perfect season rolling with a 47-6 rout of Payette in 4A Snake River Valley action. Quarterback Titus Vidlak needed just eight completions to account for 166 yards and four touchdowns through the air while adding 28 yards and another score on five carries. Killian Wilson paced the ground attack with 105 rushing yards and also hauled in a receiving touchdown as Fruitland totaled 340 yards. The unbeaten Grizzlies now turn their attention to next week's showdown with undefeated Homedale.
12. Madison (4-2) ↑1 — The Bobcats held their position during their bye week. Despite their 4-2 record, Madison's two losses have come by a combined two points to top-10 teams, showcasing their ability to compete with the state's elite programs.
13. Carey (6-0) ↑3 — The Panthers pushed their winning streak to 16 games, the longest in the state, with a 54-24 victory over Rockland. The reigning 1A state champions roll on with no signs of slowing down.
14. Timberline (5-1) ↓7 — The Wolves suffered their first loss of the season in stunning fashion, falling 26-12 to Middleton at Dona Larsen Park on Thursday. The Vikings held Timberline's high-flying offense to just 188 total yards. Quarterback Jack Brant went 18-for-25 for 142 yards and a touchdown while adding a rushing score, and Hudson Lewis finished with seven catches for 62 yards, but it wasn't enough against Middleton's rushing attack.
15. Owyhee (5-1) — The Storm suffered their first loss of the season, falling 34-20 to fourth-ranked Eagle despite a competitive effort. Ellis Stanley led Owyhee with 133 rushing yards, including a 70-yard touchdown run, and quarterback Colin Foy finished 15-for-24 with 130 yards while running for his own score. The Storm totaled 303 yards of offense and controlled the second half time of possession, but Eagle forced a pair of crucial goal-line stops to preserve the victory.
16. West Side (4-1) ↑3 — The defending 3A state champions, who have won five of the last six state titles, rolled to a 50-18 victory over Soda Springs. He opened the scoring with a 40-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, then sealed it with scoring runs of 5 and 36 yards in the fourth quarter.
18. Coeur d'Alene (3-3) ↓1 — The Vikings' three-game winning streak ended with a 26-7 loss to Camas, Washington at Doc Harris Stadium. With the score tied entering the fourth quarter, Coeur d'Alene lost two fumbles that Camas converted into touchdowns. The Vikings also lost senior quarterback Caden Symons to a broken collarbone in the first half, and star junior linebacker Ben Murray left the game in the second half with an injury.
19. Highland (5-2) ↓5 — The Rams suffered their second blowout loss of the season, falling 52-21 to third-ranked Rigby. Highland stayed competitive through two quarters, with quarterback Gabe Vincent throwing touchdown passes to Cedric Mitchell and Kona Baldwin to cut Rigby's lead to 28-14 at halftime. But the Trojans exploded for 24 consecutive points in the third quarter. Vincent found Keaton Belnap for a late consolation touchdown, but the outcome had long been decided. The Rams have dropped six of their last eight meetings with Rigby.
20. Sandpoint (6-1) ↑1 — The Bulldogs bounced back from their worst loss in five years with a 47-27 victory over 6A's Lake City. The win got Sandpoint back on track after a 50-9 defeat to Coeur d'Alene the previous week.
21. Twin Falls (5-1) ↓1 — The Bruins pushed their winning streak to five games with a 44-14 victory over Pocatello. Twin Falls' only blemish this season remains a 28-27 loss to Sandpoint in the season opener, and they keep proving they belong among the state's quality programs.
22. Mountain View (3-3) ↑1 — The Mavericks picked up a 34-20 victory to improve to 3-3 on the season. Mountain View keeps showing they can compete in a tough 6A SIC division.
23. Minico (5-1) ↑1 — The Spartans posted their third straight victory with a 36-0 whitewash of Idaho Falls. Minico's only loss this season came against top-ranked Bishop Kelly, proving their credentials as a quality program.
24. Ririe (7-0) ↑1 — The Bulldogs cemented themselves as the lone unbeaten 3A team in the state with an impressive 42-28 victory over previously undefeated West Jefferson. Ririe finished with 322 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns, with Kolter Lewis producing 196 yards on the ground with three scores plus a receiving touchdown. The victory was particularly impressive considering West Jefferson entered with the top scoring defense in 3A at just 8.20 points per game allowed. Ririe is 7-0 for the first time in over two decades.
25. Capital (3-3) NR — The Eagles stormed back into the rankings with a commanding 44-3 victory over Centennial. All three of Capital's losses this season have come to ranked opponents - No. 2 Rocky Mountain, No. 15 Owyhee and No. 14 Timberline.
