St. John Bosco's quest for yet another high school football national championship rolls on with the team's home opener.

Like in Week Zero when they beat Manatee (FL) 31-0, the Braves (1-0) will be the overwhelming favorite in Week One against a team from the South. This time, they face the Troopers of Eastwood of El Paso, TX.

It's easy to see why Eastwood is known as the Troopers. How many teams have the guts to schedule a non-league game against St. John Bosco, especially a season opener on the road after going 4-6 and missing the playoffs? Eastwood would shock the world if it's even able to give the Braves a competitive four quarters. But for a team with hopes of contending in UIL 6A, it's hard to imagine there's a better way to dive into the season than testing itself against a national championship frontrunner. No matter how the game goes, things will only get easier from there for the Troopers.

In last week's one half against Manatee, all key members of the Braves' passing game – arguably the best in the country – got on the board with a touchdown. Starting QB Koa Malau'ulu threw touchdown passes to Madden Williams (Texas A&M) and Darren Tubbs, and Brodie Scheinberg threw touchdowns to Daniel Odom (Oklahoma) and Carson Clark (San Jose State).

Other SN Preseason All-State selections on St. John Bosco are RB Maliq Allen, DB Isala Wily-Ava, DE Dutch Horisk (Oregon), and DB Joshua Holland (USC).
