Week 7 of the high school football season in Texas saw players put up some incredible numbers in key district games as the chase for the playoffs continued.
Teams also put up some massive scoring numbers last week. Players on this week’s list include performances for programs that put up 94, 73 (two teams), 70 and 68 points in big victories.
We narrowed down 25 of the biggest and brightest stars in the Lone Star State, including some familiar names from previous weeks.
The Sporting News will continue to highlight the state’s top players each week of the season leading up to the UIL state championships in Arlington in December.

Traey Alvarado, Rockport-Fulton: Alvarado was all over the field for the Pirates in their huge 57-56 upset win over previously unbeaten Cuero. The senior running back tallied 206 yards and two touchdowns and returned a kickoff for 16 yards. As a team, Rockport-Fulton racked up 454 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
Landyn Arriaga, Ganado: One of the top sophomore signal-callers in the state, Arriaga was at it again to lead the Indians to a 49-8 blowout victory over Weimar. Arriaga was 12-of-17 for 224 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. He also rushed for 51 yards and two more scores on five carries in the District 15-2A Division I win.
Kaegan Ash, Mount Enterprise: Even by Ash’s lofty standards, the senior running back and linebacker was beyond incredible in a 68-50 win over Grapeland. The Texas Tech commit rushed for 417 yards and seven touchdowns on 28 carries (14.9 yards per carry), caught one pass for 14 yards, returned a kickoff for a 60-yard touchdown and converted four two-point attempts on runs. Ash also recorded 15 tackles (3 solo, 12 assists) to help the Wildcats remain undefeated.
Xavier Canavis, San Antonio Clark: The junior running back had another big game to help the Cougars remain unbeaten this season with a 31-21 district win over San Antonio Madison. Canavis rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries (6.5 yards per carry) and caught three passes for 33 yards and another score.
Cary Clay, Galena Park: Although his team came up short, Clay was big-time for the Yellowjackets. He rushed for 321 yards and four touchdowns on 40 carries (8.0 yards per carry) in a 44-37 loss to Houston Waltrip in District 10-5A Division I play. Clay also had one catch for eight yards and a combined 88 yards in kickoff and punt returns.
Kohl Collins, Fairfield: The senior quarterback was on fire in a 44-6 win over Teague, going 29-of-36 for 434 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 57 yards and another touchdown in the District 9-3A Division I win.
Caleb Crenshaw, Austin Anderson: Crenshaw continued his incredible season with another brilliant performance. The uncommitted senior racked up 294 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries (9.5 yards per carry) to lead the undefeated Trojans to a 45-24 win over Pflugerville Hendrickson.
Maximus The Great Denson, Duncanville: Denson definitely lived up to his name with a huge performance in a big 48-28 District 11-6A win over DeSoto. The junior quarterback was 23-of-32 for 350 yards and seven touchdowns for the Panthers, the No. 4 team in The Sporting News Texas top 25 rankings. Are you not entertained?

Jaiden Fields, Hutto: The Hippos notched a huge 33-31 comeback win over Round Rock with the help of an electric performance by the junior two-way starter. Fields caught six passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns and intercepted a pass on defense to help Hutto improve to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in District 25-6A play.
Zane Fuentes, Alvord: The Army West Point commit had a field day in a 49-42 win over Tom Bean. Fuentes accounted for 336 of his team’s 389 rushing yards and scored five touchdowns to help Alvord improve to 5-2 overall, 3-0 in District 6-2A Division I play.
Lincoln Harn, Frisco Reedy: Harn was dealing for the Lions in their 56-7 District 5-5A Division I win over McKinney North. The junior QB1 accounted for 330 total yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions.
Rayshun Hurt, San Antonio Johnson: Hurt came through in the clutch with a 1-yard touchdown run in overtime to help the Jaguars hold off San Antonio Reagan, 34-27, in the Stone Oak Super Bowl rivalry game. The senior tallied 167 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries (5.8 yards per carry) to help Johnson remain unbeaten.
Kingston Jeffries, El Paso Eastwood: Jeffries helped the Troopers claim a big 49-26 District 1-6A win over El Paso Franklin. The junior quarterback was 18-of-23 for 338 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions and rushed for 92 yards and another score on 15 carries (6.1 yards per carry). Eastwood is 5-2 (2-1) on the season.
Reggie Jones, Sanger: As good as Jones has been this season for the Indians, he was at his best in a 73-23 District 5-4A Division II win over Van Alstyne. Jones rushed for a season-best 336 yards and four touchdowns on 21 carries (16.0 yards per carry). Jones has back-to-back 300-yard rushing games.
Brian Logan Jr., West Mesquite: The junior cornerback put up video game-like numbers in helping the Wranglers knock off Dallas Bryan Adams, 70-3. Logan Jr. made 11 tackles, a fumble recovery and two interceptions and scored two defensive touchdowns in the District 6-5A Division I win.
Greeley McAden, Tioga: The senior quarterback continued his huge season with a monster game in a 73-6 District 6-2A Division I win over Whitewright. McAden threw for 245 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 292 yards and four touchdowns, as the Bulldogs bounced back from a 47-38 loss to Tom Bean.
Quinn Murphy, Argyle Liberty Christian: The Baylor commit came up big for the Warriors in a 38-24 TAPPS Division I victory over Plano Prestonwood. Murphy was 26-of-43 for 339 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 17 yards on five attempts.
Prosper Neal, Rockwall-Heath: The Hawks stormed out to a 21-point lead before holding off North Forney, 56-55, in overtime. It was the first loss of the season for the Falcons. The junior QB1 went 23-of-28 for 266 yards with four touchdowns and one interception and rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown on 10 attempts. Neal threw a 12-yard touchdown to Carter Zahn on 4th-and-goal to tie the game in overtime.
Drico Roberson, Haltom: The senior running back was like a Swiss Army knife for the Buffaloes in their 61-20 District 8-6A win over Grand Prairie. Roberson rushed for 262 yards and six touchdowns on 29 carries (9.0 yards per carry), made a two-point conversion and had a 52-yard kickoff return.
Jaxon Schad, Pflugerville Weiss: Another one of the top sophomore QB1s in Texas, Schad was on fire against Buda Hays. He went 19-of-26 for 345 yards with one interception and rushed for 34 yards and two more touchdowns to lead the Wolves to a 50-8 District 12-5A Division I win.
Wayne Shanks Jr., Houston Kinkaid: The junior running back was big-time for the Falcons in a 43-7 Southwest Preparatory Conference win over Episcopal School of Dallas. He rushed for 222 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries (9.7 yards per carry) and hauled in four receptions for 42 yards with another trip to the end zone to help Kinkaid improve to 5-2 (2-0). Shanks Jr. also returned one punt for 18 yards.
Chuck Smith, Richardson Lake Highlands: Smith was in the zone in a 52-21 District 7-6A victory over Dallas Jesuit. The senior quarterback was 19-of-28 for 262 yards and five touchdowns to help the Wildcats up their record to 5-1 (3-0).

Jett Surratt, Carthage: Mr. Reliable was at it again for the defending Class 4A Division II state champs. The senior quarterback went 23-of-28 for 328 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a 60-14 win over Center in their District 8-4A Division II opener. Carthage has won 21 straight contests.
LJ Taylor, Celina: The senior cornerback put on a show in his team’s 38-14 victory over previously undefeated Sulphur Springs. Taylor had three punt returns for 144 yards and a touchdown, made three tackles and picked off a pass to help the Bobcats win their Texas-best 23rd straight game.

Christian Villarreal, Ozona: The senior running back continued his huge season by rushing for 296 yards and six touchdowns on 16 carries for an average of 18.5 yards per carry. He also caught a pass for a 45-yard touchdown as the Lions nearly hung 100 on Reagan County, 94-16.
