Bedford's Ashton Nally claimed a close decision over Cael Dop of Southeast Warren for the title of AllSportsPeople Iowa high school football defensive player of the year at the midway point of the regular season.

The fan-led voting closed over the weekend, with Nally claiming 52 percent of all the votes cast.

Carson Mueggenberg, Ogden: With nine sacks and 19 tackles for loss, the senior has been a constant pain for opposing offenses.

Gavin Trask, Sumner-Fredericksburg: Trask has 49 tackles, with 12 of them being for loss and eight sacks.

David Fason, Cedar Rapids Prairie: The University of Iowa commit has recorded 25.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks among his 46.5 tackles.

Damion Nowman, Saydel: Nowman has racked up 18 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks with 48 total tackles.

Wyatt Stalzer, East Marshall: The senior has a state-leading 26 tackles for loss, registering 53.5 tackles with seven sacks.

Cael Dop, Southeast Warren: A junior, Dop has been in the backfield for 22 tackles with seven sacks and 50.5 stops in all.

Zane Mullenix, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont: Mullenix has a state-best 87 total tackles, including 11 for loss with two sacks.

Chase Klatt, Calamus-Wheatland: Klatt leads the state with eight interceptions, adding five passes defended.

Landon Lindgren, Lamoni: It is something to cause turnovers, but getting points is even more impressive. Lindgren has six interceptions, returning three for scores.

Ashton Nally, Bedford: Nally has picked off seven passes, bringing four of them back for touchdowns.
