The classification is filled with dual-threat standouts and two-way superstars from around the state.
In a tightly contested race, Brody Heifner of Belmond-Klemme finished with almost 57 percent of the votes to be named the Iowa high school Class A football player of the year. He topped Korben Michels of Saint Ansgar, who garnered almost 43 percent of the votes.

Here are the nominees for the award in Iowa high school football Class A for the regular season player of the year:
Jackson Verschoor, Woodbury Central: Verschoor completed over 61 percent of his passes for 1,845 yards and 12 touchdowns, adding 254 yards and 10 TDs on the ground.
Brody Heifner, Belmond-Klemme: A gunslinger, Heifner hit on 119 of 202 for 1,724 yards and 19 TDs.
Eli Harpenau, MMCRU: The QB of one of the top teams in the class, Harpenau had 15 touchdown passes while throwing for 1,218 yards. He also has eight rushing TDs and almost 300 yards.
Jaxon Gordon, Riverside: Gordon nearly went over 2,000 in the regular season, rushing for 1,961 on 239 carries with 26 touchdowns.
Beau Burns, BGM: The move from eight-player to 11-player did not stop Burns, as he rushed for 1,745 yards and 29 TDs, adding 1,043 yards in the air and 10 more TDs.
Hunter Curley, Wapsie Valley: Averaging almost 10 yards per carry, Curley rushed for 1,546 with 24 touchdowns. He also had 6.5 sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss on defense.
Korben Michels, Saint Ansgar: An eye-popping 16.8 yards per carry allowed Michels to rush fr 1,056 on just 63 carries, scoring 22 rushing touchdowns.
Brody Hamilton, Central Decatur: Hamilton caught 31 passes for 710 yards, scoring seven touchdowns, as he averaged 23 yards per catch.
Caleb Puderbaugh, Martensdale-St. Marys: Just a sophomore, Puderbaugh caused problems with his 8.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss.
