Waukee High School senior Evan Jacobson faced some pretty heavy decisions this past summer. Jacobson, one of the top prospects in Iowa high school football, is also a standout on the basketball court.
So, when it came time to commit, Jacobson led with his heart.

Jacobson, who committed to Texas A&M over the summer to play football, will also compete on the basketball team in College Station, Texas.
"At the end of the day, every time I thought about it, I just knew I wanted to be at A&M," Jacobson told KCCI Sports. "(Playing in the SEC) that's the top of the top. It's where the best football is, and they have the most draft picks every year."
For the 6-foot-6 tight end, Texas A&M offering him the chance to also play basketball helped him decide on the Aggies over offers from schools such as Notre Dame, Iowa State and Stanford.
"It's pretty crazy," he said. "When they brought that up to me, it made it a no-brainer for me. Having the resources that they do, this made the most sense."
Rivals has Jacobson ranked as the No. 9 tight end prospect in the Class of 2026, with most outlets grading the four-star as the top athlete in the state of Iowa.
Jacobson and sixth-ranked (The Sporting News) Waukee open the season on Friday when they travel to Johnston. Last year, Jacobson caught 20 passes for 198 yards with five touchdowns.
In the winter, he will turn his attention to the basketball court, as the Warriors went 18-7 last year, reaching the Class 4A state quarterfinals. Jacobson averaged over 18 points and almost nine rebounds per game.
Texas A&M is coached by Mike Elko on the football field, as he led the Aggies to an 8-5 record last season. Elko had Texas A&M sitting at the top of the SEC after a 5-0 start in league play before a loss to South Carolina.
As for the basketball team, they are led by Bucky McMillan, who replaces Buzz Williams after Williams accepted the Maryland job. They reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
