With roughly 14,000 11-man high school football teams competing across the country, there are always several dozen teams on lengthy double-digit win streaks.
And on any given weekend, several of those large streaks usually end. This weekend, however, there was only one school on our list of teams on double-digit win streaks that lost.
Minnesota's Maple Grove Crimson entered Thursday night's quarterfinal matchup against the Lakeville South [MN] Cougars in the MSHSL Class 6A playoffs on a 23-game win streak. The Cougars, meanwhile, were just 8-2 entering the contest, and the general consensus was that the Crimson would advance to the state semifinals.
Instead, Lakeville South ended up winning by three scores in a stunning 49-31 decision that ended Maple Grove's long run dating back to the 2024 season opener on August 29 of last year. The Crimson beat the Osseo [MN] Orioles that night to start a 13-game run to the 2024 MSHSL Class 6A state championship where the Crimson defeated the Minnetonka [MN] Skippers, 28-21, for the title.
