What a week for Louisiana high school football.

Edna Karr secured one of the biggest wins for the state as it went 9-0 in interstate games against teams from Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas and Florida. The Cougars were not the only ones though, as Ruston and North DeSoto joined them with Week 2 out-of-state wins.

There may not be any new teams on this week’s list, there is some shuffling as we enter a new week of Louisiana high school football.

Here is the Week 3 version of The Sporting News’ Louisiana football Top 25.

1. Edna Karr

Next Game: Sept. 19, McDonogh #35 (1-1)
Last Game: No. 1 Edna Karr 24, American Heritage (Fla.) 17 (OT)
Current Streak: 15 wins

Karr proved that it could hang against a nationally ranked power and was the highlight of Louisiana’s 9-0 showing against out-of-state teams in Week 2 (11-2 overall this season). The Cougars outlasted American Heritage as Liberty commit John Johnson scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime to cap a three-touchdown day. Karr’s next game is against McDonogh #35 before Catholic League play begins.

2. Catholic (Baton Rouge)

Next Game: Sept. 19, at No. 22 University Lab (1-1)
Last Game: No. 2 Catholic (Baton Rouge) 35, No. 15 St. Thomas More 28
Current Streak: 2 wins

The Bears earned another quality in-state win after taking the lead for good late against St. Thomas More. Catholic running back Jayden Miles rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns to pace an offense that gained 483 yards on the night. The Bears continue to move up nationally as they take on University Lab this week.

3. Ruston

  • Last Week: No. 3

Next Game: Sept. 19, Longview (Texas) (2-1)
Last Game: No. 3 Ruston 63, Cabot (Ark.) 28
Current Streak: 2 wins

There were no problems for the Bearcats in their trip to Arkansas as they were able to put up 63 points and gain 571 yards against Cabot last week. Ruston junior Sam Hartwell had 307 total yards and four touchdowns, while coming into his own at quarterback. Ruston hosts Longview, the No. 14 team in Texas, in a big interstate battle.

4. Neville

  • Last Week: No. 4

Next Game: Sept. 19, at Oak Grove (Miss.) (1-2)
Last Game: No. 4 Neville 38, Calvary 14
Current Streak: 2 wins

The Tigers exploded for 24 points in the third quarter as they defeated Calvary to go to 2-0. Powering the way for Neville were Ja’Marion Roberson and Zeland Young with two touchdowns each. The Tigers will now head to Hattiesburg, Miss. to face Oak Grove (Miss.) this week.

5. St. Augustine

  • Last Week: No. 5

Next Game: Sept. 20, vs. Legacy (Texas) (2-1)
Last Game: No. 5 St. Augustine 56, East St. John 6
Current Streak: 2 wins

Rinse, wash, repeat for the Purple Knights. For the second straight week, St. Aug played on Saturday and for the second straight week, it won 56-6. The Purple Knights have another Saturday game this week against Legacy (Texas) and Houston commit Keisean Henderson.

6. John Curtis

  • Last Week: No. 6

Next Game: Sept. 26, No. 16 Archbishop Rummel (1-1)
Last Game: No. 6 John Curtis 53, Northshore 11
Current Streak: 2 wins

The Patriots’ run game was again in full force against Northshore as they gained 407 yards and seven touchdowns as a team. The impressive thing that different players scored those seven touchdowns – leading to a well-balanced attack. John Curtis gets a much-needed bye week this week right before Catholic League play begins.

7. Central (Baton Rouge)

  • Last Week: No. 7

Next Game: Sept. 19, at Walker (1-1)
Last Game: No. 7 Central (Baton Rouge) 34, Denham Springs 28
Current Streak: 9 wins

The Wildcats defeated rival Denham Springs and have now won nine games dating back to last season. Central will make another short trip east to take on Denham Springs this week.

8. Alexandria

  • 2025 Record: 2-0
  • Last Week: No. 8

Next Game: Sept. 19, at No. 12 Destrehan (1-1)
Last Game: No. 8 Alexandria 57, Union Parish 0
Current Streak: 2 wins

The Trojans have not had to break much of a sweat in the first two weeks of the season – outscoring West Feliciana and Union Parish by a combined 111-6. Against the Farmers, senior receiver Alex Fontenot continued his breakout season with four receptions for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Alexandria travels to Destrehan in one of the top games in the state this week.

9. Zachary

  • 2025 Record: 2-0
  • Last Week: No. 9

Next Game: Sept. 19, No. 17 Carencro (1-1)
Last Game: No. 12 Zachary 30, Acadiana 14
Current Streak: 2 wins

The Bronco defense shone by shutting out Acadiana in the second half in a 30-14 win to go to 2-0. Sitting at 2-0 for the fifth in the last six years, Zachary hosts Carencro in a top 25 matchup this week.

10. Lafayette Christian

  • 2025 Record: 2-0
  • Last Week: No. 10

Next Game: Sept. 19, Westgate (1-1)
Last Game: No. 10 Lafayette Christian 41, No. 13 Carencro 38
Current Streak: 2 wins

UL Lafayette commit Braylon Walker accounted for four touchdowns against Carencro last week, including the game-winning touchdown pass to Kaden Ladet in the game’s waning moments. Walker also had 262 total yards to outduel Bear sophomore Carson Gurzi in the high-scoring game. The Knights will face another quality opponent in Westgate this week.

11. Teurlings Catholic

  • 2025 Record: 2-0
  • Last Week: No. 11

Next Game: Sept. 19, at Notre Dame (2-0)
Last Game: No. 11 Teurlings Catholic 46, Sam Houston 14
Current Streak: 1 win

Despite Gavin Breaux having 270 total yards and two touchdowns, Teurlings Catholic had a little trouble stopping Sam Houston to go to 2-0. The Rebels head to Crowley this week to take on a tough Notre Dame team that earned an upset over a ranked Southside squad in Week 1.

12. Destrehan

  • 2025 Record: 1-1
  • Last Week: No. 12

Next Game: Sept. 19, Alexandria (2-0)
Last Game: No. 12 Destrehan 58, Bonnabel 20
Current Streak: 1 win

The Wildcats got back on track last week by defeating Bonnabel, thanks to four first half touchdowns by running back Malachi Dabney. When the Destrehan offense is clicking, it can score points in bunches, which is something it may need to do against Alexandria on Friday.

13. Brother Martin

  • Last Week: No. 14

Next Game: Sept. 19, at New Hope (Miss.) (1-1)
Last Game: No. 14 Brother Martin 37, St. Paul’s 27
Current Streak: 2 wins

The Crusaders had a big game from Easton Royal, who caught nine passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Royal had a pair of touchdowns go over 70 yards and added a fourth touchdown on a pass to Rex LeBlane as an insurance score. Brother Martin will head to Columbus, Miss. to play New Hope, which had a bye week last week.

14. North DeSoto

  • 2025 Record: 2-0
  • Last Week: No. 16

Next Game: Sept. 19, at West Monroe (2-0)
Last Game: No. 16 North DeSoto 49, Center (Texas) 20
Current Streak: 2 wins

It was smooth sailing for the Griffins against Center (Texas), thanks to a 35-7 halftime lead. Northwestern State commit Luke Delafield passed for 242 yards and four touchdowns, while running back duo Kenny Thomas and Braelyn Latin combined to run for 196 yards. North DeSoto takes on West Monroe this week, as coach Dennis Dunn renews his rivalry with the Rebels.

15. Jesuit

  • 2025 Record: 2-0
  • Last Week: No. 17

Next Game: Sept. 19, at Bonnabel (1-1)
Last Game: No. 17 Jesuit 24, E.D. White 21
Current Streak: 2 wins

The Blue Jays relied on their defense to seal a quality win over 2024 Division II select finalist E.D. White – clinching the game on the final drive. Jesuit’s offense turned over the ball five times, but Gavin Palmisano scored a pair of touchdowns to keep them undefeated. The Jays head to Bonnabel.

16. Archbishop Rummel

  • 2025 Record: 1-1
  • Last Week: No. 20

Next Game: Sept. 19, No. 24 Archbishop Shaw (1-1)
Last Game: No. 20 Archbishop Rummel 30, No. 18 University Lab 17
Current Streak: 1 win

The Raiders not only broke even with their record after their first win of the season, but they return to their original ranking after taking down University in the first game of the “Inspire the City Invitational”. Rummel was able to turn the game into its favor in the second half by running for 230 yards. The Raiders head to the Westbank to face longtime rival Archbishop Shaw Friday.

17. Carencro

Next Game: Sept. 19, No. 9 Zachary (2-0)
Last Game: No. 10 Lafayette Christian 41, No. 13 Carencro 38
Current Streak: 1 loss

While the Bears lost to Lafayette Christian, they proved that they belong on this list in the close loss. Carson Gurzi kept pace with Braylon Walker by scoring three touchdowns in the quarterback duel, but it was not enough thanks to a late Knight touchdown. Carencro hosts Zachary in the open-air Cro Dome for a massive Week 3 game.

18. Franklin Parish

  • Last Week: No. 19

Next Game: Sept. 19, at Calvary (1-1)
Last Game: No. 19 Franklin Parish 48, St. Frederick 7
Current Streak: 2 wins

LSU commit Dezyrian Ellis helped the Patriots make quick work of St. Frederick with 331 total yards and three passing touchdowns. It was also a good night for junior running back Treylon Martin, who needed just six carries to run for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Franklin Parish heads to Shreveport to face Calvary.

19. Dunham

  • 2025 Record: 2-0
  • Last Week: No. 21

Next Game: Sept. 19, St. Charles (2-0)
Last Game: No. 21 Dunham 63, Live Oak 42
Current Streak: 2 wins

The Tigers have been one of the highest scoring teams in the state this season and Week 2 was no exception with 63 points against Live Oak. Beginning with a 72-yard touchdown pass on the first play of game, Elijah Haven accounted for 535 yards and eight touchdowns – both career highs for the nation’s top Class of 2027 prospect. Dunham will look to keep it going this week against a St. Charles squad that has allow just three points this year.

20. St. James

  • Last Week: No. 22

Next Game: Sept. 19, at Terrebonne (2-0)
Last Game: No. 22 St. James 52, West St. John 6
Current Streak: 2 wins

The Wildcats earned another in-parish win – this time taming the Rams for a lopsided win. Kani King-Young scored the first three touchdowns to help St. James jump out to an 18-0 lead and the rest of the team did the rest. The Wildcats head to Terrebonne this week.

21. Holy Cross

  • 2025 Record: 2-0
  • Last Week: No. 23

Next Game: Sept. 19, Chalmette (1-1)
Last Game: No. 23 Holy Cross 20, De La Salle 0
Current Streak: 2 wins

The Tigers pitched a shutout against De La Salle last week – forcing three interceptions and allowing 228 yards. Holy Cross quarterback Jokoby Farria turned in a good game with 201 passing yards and two total touchdowns. The Tigers host Chalmette for their home opener this week before starting Catholic League play.

22. University Lab

  • 2025 Record: 1-1
  • Last Week: No. 18

Next Game: Sept. 19, No. 2 Catholic (Baton Rouge) (2-0)
Last Game: No. 20 Archbishop Rummel 30, No. 18 University Lab 17
Current Streak: 1 loss

A tough setback for the Cubs last week after losing to Rummel, but they stay on this list after dropping four spots. Ethan McGlynn threw a couple touchdown passes to Lawson Dixon, but the Raiders closed the game on a 20-7 run for the win. University gets to host a strong Catholic squad this week.

23. St. Thomas More

Next Game: Sept. 19, at Acadiana (0-2)
Last Game: No. 2 Catholic (Baton Rouge) 35, No. 15 St. Thomas More 28
Current Streak: 3 losses

The Cougars are 0-2 for the first time since 2021, but they have also played one of the toughest schedules in the state – keeping them on this list. Behind Cole Bergeron’s 342 passing yards and two touchdowns, STM was either in the lead or tied for most of the contest against Catholic (Baton Rouge), but it was done in by a fourth quarter touchdown. 24. Archbishop Shaw

  • Last Week: No. 24

Next Game: Sept. 19, No. 16 Archbishop Rummel (1-1)
Last Game: No. 24 Archbishop Shaw 46, West Jefferson 0

The Eagles got right back on track in Week 2 by shutting out fellow Westbank foe West Jefferson. Shaw is in the middle of a five-game homestand and can make its way back up this list with three of its next four opponents also in the rankings. The Eagles face historical rival Archbishop Rummel this week.

25. Evangel

Next Game: Sept. 19, at C.E. Byrd (0-2)
Last Game: No. 25 Evangel 63, Natchitoches Central 42
Current Streak: 1 win

Points were aplenty in the Eagles’ home opener against Natchitoches Central, but they held on for their first win of the season. Evangel junior quarterback and new LSU commit Peyton “Pop” Houston went off for 389 passing yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for 116 yards and another touchdown. The Eagles will make the short trek to Lee Hedges Stadium to face a Byrd team that lost to Haughton by a point in overtime.
