FORNEY, Texas, Nov. 20 — The South Oak Cliff [Dallas, TX] Bears continued their march toward another appearance in the Texas Class 5A Division II state championship game against the Mt. Pleasant [TX] Tigers with a 46-7 win Thursday night.
The game kicked off, and Mt. Pleasant quickly drove inside the Bears' 10-yard line before throwing an interception in the end zone. Shortly thereafter, the game entered a weather delay that ultimately lasted about two-and-a-half hours. Mt. Pleasant then forced a quick three-and-out, and a bad snap on the South Oak Cliff punt attempt was recovered by the Tigers on the 3-yard line.
It took them nine plays following an interference penalty to score from there, but eventually the Tigers punched it in for a 7-0 lead. They continued to battle throughout the first half despite being clearly overmatched talent-wise, and ultimately the Bears eventually clawed their way to a 20-7 halftime lead.
After the break, they continue to pick up steam, eventually adding four second half touchdowns for the final result.
Mt. Pleasant's season ends at 5-7 while the Bears improve to 11-1. They advance to face the winner of Friday's matchup between the Terrell [TX] Tigers (11-0) and the Huntsville [TX] Hornets (7-4).
