FINAL — No. 28 Bixby [OK] Spartans 66, Jenks [OK] Trojans 35 image

The top two teams in Oklahoma high school football will face off Friday night.

JENKS, Oklahoma, Sept. 26 — It was a tale of two halves, but only one team played a whole game.

The Bixby [OK] Spartans ventured on the road to face the Jenks [OK] Trojans and returned home with a 66-35 victory to continue their dominance in the series between the two rivals. Bixby has now won eight of the last nine games against Jenks, including five in a row on the Trojans' home field.

The game was a first-half thriller with Bixby taking a 38-35 lead to the lockers with a nice balance of rushing and passing that helped the Spartans overcome an early 21-8 deficit. Jenks built that early lead on the strength of Landon Kizzar's arm as the junior hurler threw three first-quarter touchdown passes for the red-hot home team.

But Bixby kept it close relying on the legs of Jason Mall and the arm of Carson Kirby. Mall scored two first-half touchdowns on runs of 44 and 70 yards, while Kirby found success through the airways with three touchdown passes to Braeden Presley (80 yards), Cetcher DeHart (17 yards), and Emory Snyder (14 yards).

The second half was a completely different game. Bixby's defense found its footing, pitching a second half shutout while Kirby continued to keep the pressure on the Jenks defenders. DeHart and Snyder were each on the receiving end of a second touchdown pass from Kirby, and the Spartans' quarterback added a sixth touchdown pass on an 11-yard strike to Connor Arant.

Gabe Blankenship's fourth-quarter touchdown rounded out the scoring for the Spartans, who improved to 4-0 with the win. Jenks, meanwhile, fell to 3-1.

Next up for Bixby is a home date with the Moore [OK] Lions (2-2) on October 3. Jenks will tangle with the undefeated Norman [OK] Tigers (4-0) that same night.
