The first week of the Iowa high school football season brought us plenty of exciting individual performances.

Here are just a handful of the best of the best from Week 1 of the Iowa high school football season. Stats used are based off those uploaded to Varsity Bound by Sunday, August 31 at 12:00 a.m. CT.

Iowa High School Football Week 1 Top Performances

Passing

  • Caden Klein, Newton: Klein threw for 399 yards and five touchdowns
  • Brody Heifner, Belmond-Klemme: Heifner racked up 392 yards in the air and three TDs
  • Colin Willis, Roland-Story: The sophomore threw for 338 yards and had four passing scores
  • Maxzen Eskildsen, Northeast: Another 10th-grader, Eskildsen had 301 yards passing with 301 yards and a pair of touchdowns
  • Teagan Hanson, GTRA: Hanson hit 62 percent of his passes for 292 yards an five touchdowns
  • Eli Kampman, Solon: On 15 completions, Kampman had five touchdown passes and 272 yards
  • Cameron Boyd, Storm Lake: Boyd had a big opening night, throwing five TDs and 230 yards

Rushing

  • Beau Burns, BGM: The move to 11-player did not bother Burns, who rushed for 427 yards with six touchdowns
  • Keaton Gates, West Branch: Branch piled up 274 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries
  • Daniel Larmie, Ankeny: The senior ran for 241 yards on 37 carries with a pair of TDs
  • Logan Heim, Tripoli: Heim found the end zone twice and ran for 229 yards on 24 carries
  • Bryce Brabham, Exira-EHK: Brabham made five trips to paydirt, rushing 21 times for 111 yards
  • London Frankin, New London: Franklin amassed 207 yards on 19 carries, hitting the end zone four times
  • Talan Fuson, Woodward-Granger: Fuson ran the offense to much success, scoring four times while rushing for 205 yards

Receiving

  • Braden Dougherty, Belmond-Klemme: The senior caught 13 passes for 177 yards with two touchdowns
  • Jade Mielk, Northeast: Mielk caught 11 passes for 111 yards and two scores
  • Finn Martin, Newton: The beneficiary of Klein, Newton caught six passes for 213 yards and three touchdowns
  • Gavin Egeland, Nevada: With six receptions for 204 yards and two scores, Egeland served notice
  • Dawson Grady, Cedar Ridge Christian: Grady visited the end zone four times on his six catches for 160 yards

Defense

  • Brayden Miller, Ogden: Miller picked off three passes in an 18-0 victory
  • Drew Hobart, Mason City: Hobart bothered the Dodgers, recording three interceptions
  • Landon Hassett, BGM: Hassett and BGM dominated Columbus, picking off three passes
  • Levi Reineke, Boyer Valley: Of his 18.5 tackles, 16 were solo stops for Reineke
  • Nick Milburn, Newton: Milburn was all over the field, making 18.5 tackles with 17 solos
  • Cayden Dudley, Ogden: Another key piece to a shutout in Week 1, Dudley finished with four sacks

Special Teams

  • Adam Salem, Iowa City West: Salem was 3-for-3 on field goals
  • Kase Coleman, Bedford: Coleman returned both kickoffs he touched back for touchdowns, averaging 70 yards per return
