Lincoln-Way East High School senior and University of Southern California commit Jonas Williams broke the mark Friday night in a 42-6 win over Metea Valley. The Griffins are now 6-0 on the year and have recorded six lopsided wins.

Williams finished the night with four passing touchdowns in the record-breaking night, as he now has an all-time Illinois high school football career record with 131. The previous mark was 128 set by both Jordan Roberts of Aurora and Tyler Hutchinson from Greenville.

A four-year starter at quarterback, Williams began his career with Bolingbrook before transferring to Lincoln-Way East before his junior season. He had 37 touchdowns as a freshman and 33 as a sophomore before going for 42 last year in helping the Griffins reach the Class 8A state football semifinals.

Williams is closing in on setting the state career record for passing yards, which is 11,190 set by Logan Malachuk of Nazareth. He entered the year with 8,859 yards in three years.
