The No. 16 Chaminade-Madonna [Hollywood, FL] Lions were thoroughly beaten in last week's 42-13 blowout loss to the No. 4 St. Frances Academy [Baltimore] Panthers.
Now the Lions kick off their Florida slate, and they should break into the win column Friday night hosting a McArthur [Hollywood, FL] Mustangs' squad that was just 2-8 a year ago.
Chaminade-Madonna is Florida's FHSAA Class 1A defending state champions, and they entered last Saturday's contest against St. Frances Academy of Maryland as the nation's preseason No. 10 team. St. Frances, however, was No. 4 and looked in every facet of the game to be far superior to the Lions.
The Lions were squarely in the national title picture entering the game, but there's almost no path forward now. They'll have to settle with piling up some wins against Florida competition while working their way back to the Top 10 and hoping things shake out in their favor ahead of them in the rankings.
