Each of the past two years, the Bishop Garrigan High School football team has reached the UNI-Dome and the state semifinals.

Two years ago, the Golden Bears delivered legendary head coach Marty Wadle is first state title after over three decades on the sidelines. Last fall, they returned, falling in the final four to eventual champion Remsen St. Mary's.
Bishop Garrigan is once again loaded for a deep postseason run under Wadle this year, led by returning three-year starter Tate Foertsch at quarterback. Ethan Marso is one of the top two-way players in eight-player football for the Golden Bears.
Riceville, meanwhile, opened the year with a tough 30-24 loss to Turkey Valley. These two have met twice before, with Bishop Garrigan winning last year, 47-12, and Riceville taking a 24-16 victory in 2021.
