Whether it's wins, losses, points, or yards, crazy numbers and statistical anomalies are always part of the high school football experience on any given week. And, so far, the 2025 season has delivered some eye-popping numbers that will make your head spin.
There have already been several major state and program records set by individuals, and there are teams on winning streaks – and losing streaks – that defy comprehension. And while there are dozens of other amazing numbers, many that never even make it to our computer screens, we've compiled a list of some of the wilder numbers that have grabbed our attention over the past couple of weeks.
So, just in case you missed them, we put them all here. There's no rhyme or reason to our list other than the order of the numbers themselves.
But it's still fascinating. This is High School Football By the Numbers.

High School Football by the Numbers

Kaegan Ash of Mt. Enterprise [TX] is in his fourth year as the feature back in the Wildcats' offense. He rushed for 2,023 yards as a freshman in 2022 before adding 2,837 as a sophomore in 2023. Last fall, he collected another 1,960 yards, and in just four games in 2025, he already has 955 yards on just 57 carries. That is his best start, yet, in terms of average yards per carry (16.8 avg.).
He's also scored 111 touchdowns along the way, and, amazingly, he's piled up those totals while never playing more than 10 games in a season. Mt. Enterprise was just 1-9 during his breakout freshman campaign before finishing 5-5 during his sophomore year. Last season, they finally made the playoffs, and Ash ran for 536 yards in his first three postseason games as the Wildcats were bounced from the party by the Bremond [TX] Tigers in the third round of the Texas UIL Class 2A Division II playoffs.
As effective as Ash is as a running back, it's actually not the position he's being recruited to play in college. He's also a 3-star prospect at linebacker, and he's currently committed to play for the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Over a two-game span on August 29 and September 5, Myles McLaughlin of the Knox [IN] Redskins ran for 867 yards on just 57 carries with 14 touchdowns.
McLaughlin was the nation's leading rusher headed into this weekend with 1,377 yards rushing on 123 carries in just four games. McLaughlin was also leading the country in yards rushing per game with 344.2 and an average yards per carry of 11.20.
651
Through the first four games of the season, sophomore Lukas Prock of the Hun [Princeton, NJ] Raiders was leading the nation in average passing yards per game with 406.3.
That included a 651-yard outburst on September 12 against the Hewlett Sports Academy [Waldorf, MD] Eagles in which Prock completed 22-of-27 attempts while throwing for 8 touchdown passes in the Raiders' 64-0 win. Heading into this weekend, Prock had 1,625 passing yards with 18 touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Prock will get the opportunity to display his talents on bigger stages in the weeks to come. The Raiders will take on two national Top 10 opponents later in the season with an October 17 trip to Baltimore to take on the St. Frances Academy Panthers before hosting the IMG Academy [Bradenton, FL] Ascenders on November 1.

In the aftermath of the Poplarville [MS] Hornets' 60-54 win over the Hancock [Kiln, MS] Hawks on September 12, it was reported that Tylan "Ty" Keys had set a new a Mississippi single-game rushing record with 546 rushing yards.
After a film review, it was determined that Keys had 'only' 506 yards. He accumulated the total on just 17 carries – nearly half of which went for touchdowns. Eight of those runs ended in the end zone which is a single-game state record. The yardage total, however, was short of the Magnolia State's single-game record of 543 yards set by Jaley Adams of the Mantachie [MS] Mustangs back in 2015.
But it is still one of the greatest rushing performances in Mississippi schoolboy history, and certainly, one of the best performances of 2025. Keys, for the record, is a 4-star prospect so big nights are certainly expected from the junior running back. Even so, a 500-yard single-game rushing performance is exceeding any reasonable expectation.

You don't see many quarterbacks who are the size of linemen, but Kyren Eleby certainly fits the bills – the Junior Bills, that is.
Eleby is a 6-feet, 2-inch 285-pound quarterback for St. Louis [MO] University High School, and so far, he's led the Junior Bills to a 4-0 start in 2025. That's good enough for a Top 25 ranking in the state of Missouri, and Eleby's highlight tape is worth a look. While he stands out at first glance just due to his size, it's ultimately his skills that leave the most lasting impression.
230.3
The Webb Schools [Claremont, CA] Gauls are now 4-0 after Saturday's 66-7 win over the Channel Islands [Oxnard, CA] Raiders.
A big reason for Webb's success on offense is wide receiver Alec Kaushal. Heading into that game, Kaushal was leading the nation with 230.3 receiving yards per game with 691 yards in three contests on 36 receptions with 7 touchdowns. That includes a 12-catch, 287-yard, 2-touchdown effort against the Loara [Anaheim, CA] Saxons on September 13.
102 & 96
The Kendrick [ID] Tigers play 8-man football in Idaho, and they've won four games by a cumulative total of 325-8. That's an average score of 81-2.
That includes a 102-0 win over the Clearwater Valley [Kooskia, ID] Rams and a 96-8 victory over the Oakley [ID] Hornets. Those are eye-popping numbers no matter how many players are on the field.
88
The Eunice [NM] Cardinals were a New Mexico Class 2A state semifinalist a year ago, and heading into this weekend, they were 4-0 in 2025.
That includes an 88-36 win over the Indians from Morton, Texas, on September 12.
81
Bishop Watterson of Columbus, Ohio, also topped the 80-point mark on September 12. The Eagles crushed the Columbian [Tiffin, OH] Tornadoes, 81-7, thanks in part to an unstoppable ground game that rolled up 324 yards and eight touchdowns on just 25 offensive snaps.
70-65
The Lake Charles [LA] College Prep Trailblazers trailed the Barbe [Lake Charles, LA] Buccaneers, 51-27, at halftime on September 11.
No problem.
The Trailblazers kicked things into high gear in the second half, turning the game into a shootout that Lake Charles football fans won't soon forget. By the time it was over, they were on the high end of a 70-65 result that used most of the available lights on the scoreboard.
69
The Marion Local [Maria Stein, OH] Flyers just keep on winning. They reached No. 69 Friday night in a 40-7 win over the New Bremen [OH] Cardinals, and they'll try to extend the nation's longest win streak to 70 games next Friday night when they host the Versailles [OH] Tigers.

Legacy Christian Academy [Frisco, TX] Eagles' kicker Jack Drygas booted a 64-yard field goal in a 30-7 win over the Dallas HSAA [Plano, TX] Angels on September 12.
EAGLES WIN!

Eagles head into BYE week 3-0. Time to heal up and get prepared for district play.

62-57
Revisiting the exploits of Mt. Enterprise's Kaegan Ash, his Friday night performance against the Shelbyville [TX] Dragons helped lift his Wildcats to a wild 62-57 win. Ash, of course, did his part as usual with 385 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns on the ground while adding another 123 yards receiving with two more scores.

Alright, this isn't specifically a 'high school' number, but it was too good to leave off this list. If you think you're too old to go back to college and finish your degree, think again. Heck, you might not even be too old to go back to college and compete as an athlete.
At the very least, refrain from telling Thomas Cillo that he's too old for all of that. Cillo is a 58-year-old freshman defensive lineman for the Lycoming College Warriors in Pennsylvania.
51
Looking again at Knox's Myles McLaughlin from above, he's averaging 11.2 yards per carry this season so he can pile up a lot of yards on a relatively small number of carries. However, he also showed that he can be quite the workhorse in the Redskins' 36-21 win over the Tippecanoe Valley [Akron, OH] Vikings. McLaughlin carried the ball 51 times in that game for a hard-earned 320 yards and 5 touchdowns.
10
Can you say 'dual-threat quarterback?'
As documented here on The Sporting News last week, Chase County [Cottonwood Falls, KS] Bulldogs' QB Wyatt Griffin had the game of his life on September 12. Griffin ran for 335 yards and seven touchdowns while passing for 225 yards and three more scores in a 70-50 win over the Kiowa County [Greensburg, KS] Mavericks on September 12.

Did we mention a guy named Myles McLaughlin? We've already featured McLaughlin's exploits twice above, but it's worth re-examining his performance in the Redskins' 70-24 win over the Culver Academies [IN] Eagles on September 5.
McLaughlin carried the ball 27 times in that game for 439 yards, and he also completed 3-of-5 passes for another 70 yards and a touchdown. All of those numbers are impressive, but his nine rushing touchdowns in that game might be the most impressive number when breaking that performance down.
3-1
The Mansfield Lake Ridge Eagles were a combined 1-19 over the past two seasons. They started the 2025 season 3-0 before losing their first game Friday night to the North Forney [Forney, TX] Falcons.
3
Lexington [NC] Senior Yellowjackets' DB Kamari McDonald set a new North Carolina NCHSAA state record for most interceptions returned for a touchdown in a single game. McDonald took three pick sixes to the house in the Yellowjackets' 40-0 win over the East Davidson [Thomasville, NC] Golden Eagles on Friday night.
2
Speaking of multi-interception games, Isaiah Martinez of the San Pasqual Valley [Winterhaven, CA] Warriors specializes in that category. In the Warriors' first four games, he intercepted seven passes, and in three of those games, he had two interceptions apiece.
1
Last week, the Mater Dei [Santa Ana, CA] Monarchs saw their reign as the nation's No. 1 team end in a 43-36 loss to the Centennial [Corona, CA] Huskies. Then that same group of Monarchs went to Las Vegas Friday night and beat the team that replaced them at No. 1 – the Bishop Gorman Gaels of Nevada.
This week, the St. John Bosco [Bellflower, CA] Braves will become the third No. 1 team in three weeks.
Hey, nobody said this was going to be easy.
