When you talk about decade-after-decade consistency in the upper ranks of Southern California high school football, especially among public schools, Edison is almost always one of the first teams to come to mind.

Simply put, the golden era of Chargers football has gone on continuously for decades, even generations. And that was already the case before they won a CIF-Southern Section D3 championship and state 1-A crown in 2024.

Look no further than Edison's Bell Game against traditional rival Fountain Valley. In Week Four (Sep. 19), the Chargers won their 21st consecutive Bell Game, this time by a score of 34-7. The Chargers were led offensively by running backs Samuel Edmisten and Anthony Godinez, both of whom ran for two touchdowns and more than 80 yards. Edison is now at the point where all of its players were at least two years away from being born since the team last lost in the rivalry.

For the Chargers' victory over Fountain Valley, Edison has been voted The Sporting News' California Team of the Week for Week Four by fans with almost 68% of the voting. Mater Dei was the runner-up with 25.4% of votes for unseating the top-ranked team in the country, Bishop Gorman (NV), 27-24 in Las Vegas.
