Here are The Sporting News' CIF-Southern Section top 25 football team rankings for Week Seven of the 2025 season (Oct. 13-19).
The rankings will be updated every week throughout the season.
PREVIOUS RANKINGS: Week One | Week Two | Week Three | Week Four | Week Five | Week Six | Week Seven
1. St. John Bosco (7-0 – 1st last week)
The gap is widening between St. John Bosco and almost all of the rest of the pack. Last week's 48-0 beatdown of Orange Lutheran was among its most impressive wins yet.
2. Corona Centennial (6-1 – 3rd)
Centennial's offense is on an incredible run right now, not to mention that its defense has also been stellar. During the Huskies' five-game winning streak, they're averaging 50.4 PPG against Bingham (UT), Mater Dei, Rancho Cucamonga, Roosevelt (Eastvale), and most recently, Vista Murrieta.
3. Sierra Canyon (7-0 – 4th)
Just how good has Sierra Canyon's defense been this season? In last week's 45-14 win over Chaminade that effectively clinched the Mission League title barring a collapse, Chaminade scored two of the only three touchdowns the Trailblazers' defense has allowed all season.
4. Santa Margarita (5-2 – 6th)
It's official: Santa Margarita is playing for a Trinity League title on Friday when it faces St. John Bosco. Trent Mosley returned from injury to score the Eagles' only touchdown in last week's 7-6 victory over Mater Dei. By the way, if you think the rankings have been confusing so far this season with all the upsets among California's top teams, just imagine if Santa Margarita upsets St. John Bosco next week.
5. Mater Dei (4-2 – 2nd)
Last week's 7-6 loss to Santa Margarita spelled the end of Mater Dei's national title hopes and probably its Trinity League title hopes too. But the Monarchs are still in the running for a section and state championship.
6. Mission Viejo (6-1 – 5th)
The McCallie loss is once again likely the difference of four spots for the Diablos, which would otherwise be unbeaten with the Santa Margarita win under their belt. This week they face arch rival San Clemente, which may or may not be able to rise to the occasion and challenge the higher-ranked Diablos like in some recent years.
7. Orange Lutheran (3-4 – 7th)
It feels too harsh to drop the Lancers thanks to their wins over Miami Northwestern (FL) and Rancho Cucamonga given that its 48-0 was at the hands of St. John Bosco, the No. 1 team in all of high school football. But their resume is losing its luster. Still, Orange Lutheran will have plenty of chances to rise down the stretch of the season with JSerra, Santa Margarita, and Servite on deck before the playoffs.
8. Servite (4-2 – 8th)
After last week's 43-26 win over JSerra, it should be near-consensus that Servite is once again good enough to be in CIF-SS Division 1. The Friars won the game up front against a Lions team that's tough in the trenches, rushing for 348 yards and four touchdowns on 8.3 yards per carry while holding JSerra to 61 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries. Not to mention Servite collectively recorded eight sacks.
9. Los Alamitos (7-0 – 9th)
The Griffins jump back into the fire for Alpha League play after not one but two bye weeks. They ramp up by facing Edison (Huntington Beach), San Clemente, and then Mission Viejo.
10. Murrieta Valley (6-1 – 11th)
Last week's 56-42 win over high-powered Chaparral is about what most people expected from the Nighthawks, who are pretty close to clinching a top-two spot in the Big West - Upper. Their pursuit of securing a top-two finish, however, pauses this week as it takes a shot at the gold metal hosting Corona Centennial.
11. Corona del Mar (7-0 – 24th)
After rolling to a win over San Juan Hills last week, nearly the best possible thing for CdM's stock would be a convincing San Juan Hills over Yorba Linda. And that's exactly what happened last week. Corona del Mar finishes against Yorba Linda on Oct. 30 and must first beat Villa Park and Tesoro.
12. San Juan Hills (4-2 – 13th)
San Juan Hills came out with something to prove against Yorba Linda, winning 41-17 to stay in the Bravo League race. It must now win out against lower-ranked Newport Harbor, Tesoro, and Villa Park while hoping Yorba Linda upsets Corona del Mar in Week 10.
13. Crean Lutheran (7-0 – 12th)
It was just another day at the office last week as the Saints walloped El Dorado (Placentia) 50-7. Its next two weeks are its biggest of the regular season as it faces La Habra and Huntington Beach for an Epsilon League title.
14. Pacifica-Oxnard (7-0 – 15th)
For a team ranked this high, Pacifica left something to be desired in its last two games, narrow wins over Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure. But those are dang good teams and the Tritons have now taken care of business every single week through seven games – and with substantial room to spare against all their other opponents.
15. Damien (6-1 – 16th)
It was yet another tremendous offensive performance last week as the Spartans bounced back from the Rancho Cucamonga loss to beat Etiwanda 49-31. Damien has a chance to keep building momentum this week against an Upland team that's much better than its 1-6 record indicates.
16. JSerra (3-4 – 17th)
JSerra came alive in the second half against Servite but couldn't come back from a 21-0 halftime lead as it fell 43-26. This week could be another toss-up game or a lopsided loss as the Lions are a moderate underdog to Orange Lutheran.
17. Leuzinger (5-1 – 18th)
Another week, another quality win for the Olympians. They followed up their 43-32 win over Inglewood by breezing past Palos Verdes 40-14 to take a stranglehold of the Bay League title race. A stronghold, that is, assuming they don't get upset in Week Nine by Mira Costa, which would be unlikely but is far from a given.
18. Rancho Cucamonga (3-4 – 19th)
With Tustin's loss to Long Beach Poly getting wiped off due to a retroactive upset, Rancho Cucamonga's path to returning back to the top 15 or higher is even more plausible now. That's because Tustin beat San Clemente which beat Chaparral which beat Rancho Cucamonga, and now all of those teams have a slightly cleaner resume with Tustin's Poly loss gone. The Cougars helped their cause last week with a 41-0 pummeling of Ayala.
19. Tustin (6-1 – 22nd)
Good news for Tillers fans: Long Beach Poly had an ineligible player in its 28-27 comeback win over Tustin, and now Tustin only has a loss to Damien counting against its resume.
20. San Clemente (4-3 – 23rd)
San Clemente got a stock boost without playing a game last week as Tustin, which beat San Clemente, had its Long Beach Poly loss wiped off due to an ineligible player. It'll be interesting to see if San Clemente can rise to the occasion this week as it has multiple times in recent memory against nemesis Mission Viejo.
21. Chaparral (3-4 – 21th)
Despite the Pumas remaining at No. 21, their stock is actually higher than it was a week ago despite losing 54-42 to Murrieta Valley. For one, a well-contested loss to No. 10 Murrieta Valley doesn't hurt the Chaparral's stock despite the fact that it puts the team below .500. Secondly, with Long Beach Poly retroactively forfeiting its win over Tustin, which beat San Clemente which beat Chaparral, Chaparral gets a downstream boost with Tustin's slate looking cleaner. With the Rancho Cucamonga win under its belt, Chaparral now has an easier path to rising back up.
22. Downey (6-1 – 25th)
We all knew Downey was going to post some wild scoring numbers in blowout wins in Gateway League play this year. Even still, 67-7 over La Mirada is no joke.
23. Vista Murrieta (5-2 – Bubble)
Funnily enough, Vista Murrieta actually moves up two spots after getting utterly destroyed last week to drop 5-2 after starting 5-0. The Broncos weren't expected to compete with Corona Centennial and they gave Chaparral a great game the week before. Additionally, their Sep. 12 win over Bishop Amat is worth more now after Bishop Amat upset Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) last week.
24. Yorba Linda (5-2 – 24th)
A 41-17 loss to San Juan Hills was deflating. But Yorba Linda's Bravo League title hopes aren't quite dashed as the Mustangs could force a three-way tie for first place with an upset of Corona del Mar.
25. Oak Hills (5-2 – Bubble)
Oak Hills picked up one of its most important wins of the regular season last week by beating Apple Valley 42-21. Its only losses were competitive games against Rancho Cucamonga and JSerra, and it has a 38-10 rout of Bishop Amat to its name.
ON THE BUBBLE:
