Here are The Sporting News' top 25 team rankings for Week Seven (Oct. 6-12) of the 2025 California high school football season.

Teams from all 10 CIF sections are eligible for the rankings, which will be updated every week throughout the season.

PREVIOUS RANKING: Week Zero | Week One | Week Two | Week Three | Week Four | Week Five | Week Six

California high school football top 25 team rankings

1. St. John Bosco (6-0 – 1st last week)

Yes, JSerra is the lowest-ranked team in the Trinity League. But a 70-21 win over the Lions is utterly ridiculous. There have only been a few 70 point outings in Trinity League play in the last decade or so. High school football's No. 1 team looks to keep it going next week against Servite.

2. Mater Dei (4-1 – 2nd)

The Monarchs got off to another slow start on Friday, this time against Orange Lutheran, but they picked it up to win comfortably by a score of 25-10 after leading just 7-3 at halftime. It's hard to know exactly what to expect this week against Santa Margarita, so expect fans from across the nation to tune in.

3. Corona Centennial (5-1 – 3rd)

Like St. John Bosco, Centennial was so good offensively in Week Six that even against the lowest-ranked team in its conference, that has to be taken as a statement. The Huskies blew out Roosevelt (Eastvale) 62-20 and will be the heavy favorite as usual with Vista Murrieta up next.

4. Sierra Canyon (6-0 – 4th)

Six games, six wins, one offensive touchdown allowed. Sierra Canyon pitched its fourth shutout of the year to open Mission League play with a 30-0 rout of Serra (Gardena) that was 9-0 at halftime before the Trailblazers' offense got going down the stretch.

5. Mission Viejo (5-1 – 5th)

Speaking of statement wins, annihilating Long Beach Poly 56-7 is no joke no matter how heavy of a favorite Mission Viejo was in that game. Now the Diablos have a bye week to gear up to face their biggest rival – San Clemente.

6. Santa Margarita (4-2 – 6th)

A 17-7 win over Servite is both very impressive and merely par for the course when you're competing for a top-five ranking in California. Santa Margarita's brutal schedule reaches its apex in the next two weeks as the Eagles face Mater Dei and St. John Bosco.

7. De La Salle (6-0 – 7th)

Although injuries would later hamper Cathedral Catholic's comeback hopes, De La Salle had already rocketed off to a 21-0 start on Friday before any Dons exited the game due to injury as the Spartans cruised to a 35-14 win. Handing Cathedral Catholic its first loss is a big stock-riser even though the Spartans remain at No. 7 for now, and a top-five ranking is now in play at any time.

8. Orange Lutheran (3-3 – 8th)

After starting 2-0 and 3-1, the Lancers are back to .500 for the first time this season, and they'll almost certainly be below .500 after playing St. John Bosco next week. However, a 25-10 loss to Mater Dei that was only 7-3 at halftime is quite a respectable effort, and the Monarchs' mark of 25 points is tied for their second-lowest point total in their last 24 games.

9. Folsom (5-1 – 9th)

Folsom's offense hasn't been the same since Ryder Lyons had a brief injury absence and returned looking less than 100%. But the Bulldogs – including Lyons – didn't let that stop them on Friday in a 28-9 win over Oak Ridge that showcased some tremendous defense. Folsom trailed 9-7 at halftime before its defense shut out the Trojans in the second half and Lyons threw three long touchdown passes in the second half for what was eventually a comfortable win.

10. Lincoln-San Diego (5-1 – 10th)

Many of SoCal's top teams looked refreshed in Week Six after a bye week, which Lincoln just had in Week Seven. It restarts this week at La Jolla, its first of two San Diego Section opponents before facing Cathedral Catholic.

11. Cathedral Catholic (5-1 – 11th)

For now, Cathedral Catholic maintains its spot despite losing lopsidedly to De La Salle in a game we expected to be neck-and-neck. It didn't help that Brady Palmer and Noah Lauifi suffered concerning injuries in the second and fourth quarters, respectively, not to mention that Honor Fa'alave-Johnson was playing hobbled with what appeared to be cramps or a minor muscle strain. But by the time any of those players had missed a snap, De La Salle had already stormed out to a 21-0 lead. Still, the Dons' wins over the likes of Chandler (AZ) and Granite Hills (El Cajon) keep them here for now. Hopefully Palmer and Lauifi are okay, which would mean this doesn't have to derail the Dons' season.

12. Archbishop Riordan (5-0 – 12th)

After a 56-30 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep, Archbishop Riordan is scoring an average of 44 PPG through its 5-0 start despite facing solid competition. This might just be the best offense north of L.A. County.

13. Servite (4-1 – 13th)

Without other teams close behind them in the rankings picking up big wins, the Friars losing 17-7 to Santa Margarita doesn't hurt their stock in a vacuum. They'll be the favorite on Friday in one of their biggest matchups of the year, a home game against JSerra.

14. Los Alamitos (7-0 – 14th)

After managing to start 7-0 through Week Five, Los Al is now on its second of two consecutive bye weeks before starting Alpha League play against Edison.

15. Serra-Gardena (3-3 – 15th)

Serra's defense was good despite a 30-0 loss to Sierra Canyon, in which they trailed only 9-0 at halftime. It's a moral victory to be sure, but one that indicates the Cavaliers are still a good pick to finish second in the Mission League. And they have to if they want to stay even close to this high in the rankings.

16. Murrieta Valley (5-1 – 18th)

Absolutely nothing screams "Murrieta Valley football" like coming back from down two touchdowns to beat an unbeaten team – Norco – 55-45. This week should be another thrilling shootout as the Nighthawks face a Chaparral team they've shared some great battles with over the years.

17. Manteca (6-0 – 20th)

The Buffaloes led by a whopping 44-0 at halftime on their way to crushing rival Sierra (Manteca) 74-7. And they're nearly as heavy a favorite this week at Mountain House.

18. Mission Hills (6-0 – 22nd)

An undefeated regular season is looking pretty likely for the Grizzlies now after they survived previously-unbeaten La Costa Canyon 35-34. But there's a long way to because of the quality of competition awaiting them in the Avocado League. Carlsbad might give them just as tough of a test this week.

19. Pittsburg (5-1 – 21st)

The Pirates survived what would've been a major upset, outlasting dangerous Los Gatos 30-27. With other upsets of ranked teams coming to fruition, that was enough for them to move up two spots entering BVAL play.

20. Oak Ridge (4-2 – 23rd)

Week Six was filled with upsets, so Oak Ridge was one of a few teams to actually move up despite having a tough week. The Trojans fell 28-9 to Folsom, but not before giving Folsom a run for its money for much of the game. Oak Ridge led 9-6 at halftime, and it took three long touchdown passes from 5-star QB Ryder Lyons for Folsom to put the Trojans away before crunch time.

21. La Costa Canyon (5-1 – 24th)

With a handful of ranked teams getting upset, La Costa Canyon actually moves up two spots flukily despite picking up its first loss against Mission Hills. By all means, a one-point loss to Mission Hills isn't a stock-dropper anyway. The Mavericks look to get back on the right track this week at home against underrated San Marcos (San Marcos).

22. Crean Lutheran (6-0 – 25th)

Last week was business as usual as the Saints handled Foothill (Santa Ana) 40-14, and they'll also be the heavy favorites this week at El Dorado (Placentia). After that it faces La Habra and Huntington Beach, both of which are currently 5-1.

23. Cardinal Newman (4-1 – Bubble)

In year two of the Redwood Empire - Adobe, Cardinal Newman already enters state-ranked and merely needs to maintain its ranking. So, having the North Bay's other top teams lined up bodes well for their chances to stay ranked, but it also adds an extra challenge compared to previous eras. Last year the Cardinals were the runner-up to Marin Catholic, which they will face on Oct. 31.

24. Corona del Mar (6-0 – Unranked)

In retrospect, we should've at least had CdM in our Southern Section rankings after its 35-13 rout of Trabuco Hills, which followed a 28-21 win against a Charter Oak team that's otherwise unbeaten. But there probably weren't a ton of people outside the Sea Kings faithful who had them cruising past San Juan Hills 33-10. That means the Bravo League title probably won't be decided until the Sea Kings face Yorba Linda on Oct. 31.

25. San Juan Hills (4-2 – 19th)

One could argue that the Stallions should drop far more for losing to previously-unranked Corona del Mar. Time will tell if that's true. San Juan Hills' only other loss was by eight points in Texas to a Rockwall-Heath team that is 4-1 and ranked 28th in Texas by MaxPreps, and the Stallions have wins over Chaparral, Chino Hills, and Mira Costa.

ON THE BUBBLE:

Grant Union, Central East, Pacifica (Oxnard), Woodcreek, Acalanes, Carlsbad
