The TCS Sydney Marathon returns in 2025 as the newest addition to the Abbott World Marathon Majors and the only Major held in the Southern Hemisphere, with more than 35,000 runners expected to take part.

Leading the men’s field is Eliud Kipchoge, the two-time Olympic champion and former world record holder who has 11 Major titles to his name across Berlin, London, Tokyo, and Chicago.

The 40-year-old, who placed sixth at the London Marathon in April, will face stiff competition from Birhanu Legese, a two-time Tokyo winner and the ninth-fastest marathoner in history with a best of 2:02:48.

Also in the mix are Kipchoge’s training partner and 2023 Sydney runner-up Laban Korir, and Dutchman Björn Koreman, making his Majors debut with a personal best of 2:10:32, while Enock Kinyamal and Abel Sikowo take on pacing duties.

The women’s race features reigning Olympic champion Sifan Hassan and former world record holder and five-time Major champion Brigid Kosgei.

Starting in North Sydney, the route takes in the Harbour Bridge, The Rocks, Circular Quay, and Centennial Park before finishing at the iconic Sydney Opera House.

The Sporting News has all the details on how to watch the 2025 Sydney Marathon.
