Real Madrid set to make transfer call on injury-plagued ace after surprise Serie A offer image

Real Madrid could soon part ways with David Alaba after a surprising approach from Serie A side Fiorentina, as per Football Espana.

The Austrian defender, once a regular in the Los Blancos backline, has reportedly attracted interest from Italy as his spell at the Santiago Bernabeu continues to be overshadowed by injury problems.

At 33, Alaba is no longer the reliable figure Madrid signed from Bayern Munich. His serious knee injury in late 2023, which included a torn ACL, has left him sidelined for much of the last 18 months.

Since then, he has only managed 599 minutes of football. For a club like Madrid, where availability is as prized as ability, this has raised difficult questions about his future.

Adding to the uncertainty is Alaba’s high wage packet. According to reports, he earns around €22.5 million a year. That is a heavy price for a player struggling to stay fit.

With defenders like Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao, Dean Huijsen and Raul Asencio now in the squad, Madrid have depth in defense and less reason to hold on to the veteran.

Why David Alaba to Fiorentina could be a win-win for all?

Fiorentina have made an early move, apparently offering a two-year deal. The Serie A club are preparing for the potential exit of Pietro Comuzzo to Saudi Arabia and see Alaba’s experience as valuable.

For the Austrian, regular football is also crucial with the World Cup looming next summer.

Saudi Pro League clubs such as Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Ahli were once linked with Alaba, but no formal bids arrived.

Fiorentina’s proposal, however, seems concrete. If the player accepts, Real Madrid are reportedly willing to let him leave on a free transfer to ease the wage bill.

Alaba’s camp had previously suggested he would remain at Madrid. But with game time scarce and competition fierce, the defender may now consider a fresh challenge.

This unexpected twist has made Madrid’s transfer window busier than expected. A quiet end was anticipated, yet the Spanish giants are suddenly facing important calls in their squad planning.
