Argentina’s 6-0 win over Puerto Rico in Miami was another reminder of the strength and depth that has become one of the feature of Lionel Scaloni’s reigning world champions but the night’s real talking point lay in the manager’s plans for the future.
The heart of this Argentina team continues to be built around the golden generation that won Argentina its first World Cup in 36 years when resolute side led by Lionel Messi won in Qatar.
But Argentine coach has eye on future as well with Real Madrid’s Franco Mastantuono and Como’s Nico Paz two young talents viewed as exciting prospects for the future.
Both were included in the squad for Argentina’s October friendlies against Venezuela and Puerto Rico as Scaloni began easing them into the senior setup.
“They are important players for us. They are both left-footed, they play in a similar position, although they have different characteristics,” Scaloni said [via AS]
“We continue to try. They are young players who don't currently have a place in the starting lineup, but the idea is to give them minutes. Surely they can coexist in the future.”

Mastantuono’s introduction was delayed after a muscle strain forced his return to Madrid before the first game but the 18-year-old remains one of Argentina’s brightest hopes after having impressed with short stint at Madrid.
He has played nine games across all competitions for Los Blancos this season, totaling around 538 minutes with a goal and an assist.

Scaloni while pleased with their progress has reminded both youngsters that Argentina’s shirt carries responsibilities that must be earned over time.
“Wearing this shirt is important. These matches give us the opportunity to see new players. I made my debut against Libya, and it's still etched in my memory. It's important for them. They'll never forget it.”
