Trinity Rodman and the Washington Spirit have an NWSL championship to try and win this week.

But that hasn't been the focus in the headlines. Rodman's contract and her huge upcoming decision is in the spotlight.

Rodman, of course, is trying to focus on the game. It's the rest of the soccer world waiting to see what she'll do.

“Genuinely speaking, I’ve made no decisions,” Rodman told reporters this week. “There could be conversations being had, but right now, I am so excited to be representing the Spirit. I’m not even thinking of when my last game will be. I just want to win (the NWSL championship) and then we’ll see.”

Rodman is in the final year of her contract, and she officially becomes a free agent in December. When she signed the deal in 2021, it made her the highest player in the NWSL.

The DC Power of the Gainbridge Super League, the U.S. Competitor to the NWSL, is known to be higher than anything an NWSL team can offer under the current salary cap rules.

Rodman also has ample interest from powerhouse clubs in Europe.

She knows all eyes are on her right now.

“I started and got drafted in this league, so it’s created such an amazing soccer player in myself,” Rodman said this week. “It’s brought out a lot of things. I’ve learned a lot. This league has grown a lot, so obviously I’m honored to have her say that. But at the same time, I don’t want to put that pressure on myself — because she said that, now I’m like ‘Oh shoot, I’m trapped.’ Again, I’m focused on this weekend and that’s really all I can focus on. Then, moving forward, that’s when I really have those conversations and tough calls that I need to have.”

The NWSL salary cap for the 2026 season is $3.3 million per team. The Gainbridge Super League doesn't have a salary cap.

Rodman is 23 years old and one of the best players in the world. She has scored 11 goals for the United States as well as 23 goals in her career for the Spirit. Her 2025 season has been hampered by a back injury, but she'll have a chance to win a title before deciding what's next in her soccer journey.
