The World Cup final is one of the most iconic events in sport. Taking place every four years, it is one of the most-watched events across the globe.

The 2022 World Cup final will be the last step in crowning a new international champion. With Argentina and France the last two teams standing, one of them will lift the famous trophy above their heads.

The match between Argentina and France will be played at Lusail Stadium and will kick off on Sunday, December 18 at 6:00 p.m. local time in Qatar.

Who is in the World Cup final?

With the World Cup field down to just two teams, we know that the champion will either be Argentina or France.

Argentina cruised past Croatia in their semifinal on Tuesday, with Julian Alvarez scoring twice and Lionel Messi netting from the penalty spot.

Then on Wednesday, France beat Morocco courtesy of a battling 2-0 win. The defending champions from 2018 are hoping to become the first team to repeat as World Cup winners since 1962.

Lusail Stadium has been selected to host the 2022 World Cup final. Located north of Doha, 80,000 fans are expected to fill the venue for the decider.

On top of the final, the stadium has hosted three knockout games throughout the tournament. It hosted the 6-1 win for Portugal over Switzerland in the Round of 16, the 2-2 draw between Argentina and the Netherlands that saw the Albiceleste advance on penalties, and the Argentina vs Croatia semifinal match.

It also hosted six-group stage matches, including the memorable win for Saudi Arabia over Argentina in Group C.
